Fabio Quartararo Eyes Automatic Q2 at Favorite Track Assen Following Productive Valencia Test
Fabio Quartararo: Assen is "one of my favorite circuits", aiming for direct Q2 qualification
Fabio Quartararo is optimistic that his past achievements at Assen will secure him a direct entry into Q2.
Following the completion of 101 laps during Yamaha’s exclusive MotoGP test in Valencia, Fabio Quartararo is aiming for progress at the upcoming Assen event.
In his championship-winning year of 2021, Quartararo secured a victory at the Dutch round. Last season, he also performed well at Assen, earning a podium finish in the sprint race.
Yamaha has faced difficulties competing in the middle of the pack, making qualifying sessions crucial for riders like Quartararo and his teammate Alex Rins.
Central to their weekend strategy, Quartararo's goal is to secure a spot in Q2, aiming for direct qualification during Friday’s practice session.
"Assen ranks among my top tracks," Quartararo commented. "I'm optimistic that we'll make it to Q2 right from Friday."
"The personal trial conducted in the interval between the Dutch Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix yielded favorable results, giving us confidence that we can compete for higher placements."
Currently without an agreement for 2025, Rins is aiming to remain with Yamaha, having joined the Japanese company at the conclusion of 2023.
The ex-Suzuki motorcyclist has excelled in clinching Q2 positions in the latest races.
Nevertheless, the Spanish driver has struggled to convert good starting positions into significant finishes.
Prior to the upcoming weekend, Rins expressed his enthusiasm by saying, "Following a rather hectic three-week break, I'm very eager to begin in Assen."
"The track suits me very well. I'm excited about going there and experiencing the iconic course."
