End of an Era: Adrian Newey Bids Farewell to Red Bull F1 Races to Embark on New Aston Martin Venture
Renowned F1 designer Adrian Newey has decided to stop attending Red Bull races, reports Lewis Larkam from Baku.
Crash.net has learned that Adrian Newey has participated in his last F1 race in a formal technical role for Red Bull.
The iconic designer, often regarded as the finest in Formula 1 history, is set to depart from Red Bull following an almost twenty-year tenure to take up a new position at Aston Martin in March 2025, coinciding with the end of his current contract.
Following the announcement of his exit from Red Bull in May, Newey has made appearances at the races in Miami, Monaco, and Silverstone.
Crash.net had knowledge that Newey was expected to participate in more events for Red Bull in a technical role throughout the current season, but it seems this plan has been altered. The British 65-year-old will keep his attention on the RB17 hypercar initiative.
Even though Newey was still officially tied to Red Bull, he made an appearance at Aston Martin's notable media event to announce his move to their modern facility in Silverstone, which took place last Tuesday.
It appears that Red Bull was unaware of Newey's intentions to be present at Aston Martin's reveal event.
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, expressed dissatisfaction during a conversation with reporters, including those from Crash.net, on Friday in Baku.
"Clearly, it was a significant announcement from Aston, and Adrian has a history of going his own way, so it undoubtedly marked a major milestone for the team," remarked Horner.
"They opted to commemorate the occasion possibly a bit too soon, even before his tenure with Red Bull Racing concluded, but clearly, it was a significant milestone for the team."
Horner proceeded to laud Newey's impact on Red Bull and expressed his best wishes for his forthcoming transition.
"He remarked that it hardly came as a shock. It was increasingly apparent that his path was leaning more towards this direction instead of choosing retirement or joining a different team."
Certainly, embarking on this fresh endeavor will be a novel experience for him, and it will be a melancholic moment for us when he departs next year. However, we send him off with our best wishes for what lies ahead and reflect warmly on the nearly two decades we've shared, embracing both the triumphs and challenges we faced together.
Adrian stands out as an exceptionally inventive individual. He surpasses the typical expectations of a designer. It appears he may be the sole figure in F1 who continues to utilize a drafting table for his work.
"Undoubtedly, there will be a period of mutual understanding and learning about each other's methods and approaches. However, he stands out in several ways. Aston aims to leverage his extensive experience."
