Ducati’s Strategic Shift: Bagnaia Sees Silver Lining in Reduction to Six MotoGP Bikes
Francesco Bagnaia has indicated that Ducati reducing their number of MotoGP bikes from eight to six might actually benefit the team. Bagnaia acknowledged that having eight bikes was a crucial factor.
Francesco Bagnaia thinks that if Ducati reduces its number of MotoGP bikes, it might enable the team to concentrate better on their leading riders in the 2025 season.
Last weekend in Assen, Pramac finalized their impressive transition to Yamaha. As a result, Ducati will have two fewer bikes in 2025 and will need to reallocate their additional full factory-spec GP25s to either the Gresini team or the VR46 team.
However, despite the reduction in the number of bikes leading to a decrease in data, Bagnaia contended that the situation isn't entirely negative. He suggested that the Italian manufacturer could now concentrate more on the existing riders and motorcycles.
Bagnaia commented, “When they revealed a couple of years ago that Ducati would field eight bikes, I wasn’t afraid, but I did think that adding two more bikes with the same engineers might be challenging.”
“At the moment, my thoughts are leaning the other way. Fewer engineers and fewer bikes would allow us to concentrate more on our current projects."
"The crucial point is to secure two additional factory bikes. I'm genuinely optimistic that we'll get these extra bikes as they are vital for our progress. We'll have to wait and see."
Bagnaia, currently enjoying a streak of five straight victories that includes sprint races, came close to winning at Sachsenring last year.
An impressive showdown with Jorge Martin occurred, and the current world champion aims to surpass that achievement in 2024.
“I will definitely give it a shot,” Bagnaia stated. “In last year's race on Sunday, I performed really well, but I couldn't manage to beat Jorge as he put up a strong defense in the final laps.”
"It was really challenging to pass him. I wasn't performing at my best because I was still feeling some pain from a previous crash at Le Mans."
"I recall having a lot of potential. All the top five positions were occupied by Ducatis, indicating that our bike is ideally suited for this track. We are in for another exciting race."
