Ducati’s Edge: Jorge Martin Confident Despite Vinales’ Record Lap at Sachsenring
Jorge Martin: Ducati Remains Dominant Even with Maverick Vinales' Record Lap
Jorge Martin asserts that Ducati continues to lead over its competitors at the Sachsenring circuit.
Jorge Martin recorded the second quickest time in Friday's crucial afternoon session at the German MotoGP, although he trailed significantly behind Maverick Vinales.
The gap between the two Spanish riders was over three tenths, yet Martin firmly believes that Ducati is still the top competitor.
Martin commented, "They pose a significant danger during the time attack. However, I believe that regarding race pace, we have a slight advantage, though they remain competitive."
"This course is quite unusual, and they definitely have the capability. If the conditions on Sunday are odd with windy and cooler weather, they might be in contention."
During the second practice session at Sachsenring, over a third of the racers experienced crashes due to the challenging conditions caused by cold temperatures and strong winds.
Martin described the day as unusual, noting the challenging conditions brought by the wind and low temperatures.
"We were pushing the front tire to its limits. The medium compound was too soft, while the hard compound didn't get hot enough to be effective."
"That's the reason there were a few accidents. However, I remained confident and consistently practiced with worn tires, aiming to improve my speed towards the end of the race, which was perhaps my weakness last season."
“I’m feeling sure of myself, and the bike is performing great, allowing me to focus on the finer points. We’ll see if we can improve further tomorrow.”
Discussing tires, Martin thinks that selecting the appropriate ones for the races will be crucial due to the challenging conditions.
Martin stated that while there won't be significant changes, the selection of the front tire will be affected. Opting for the hard front tire will be a safer choice and beneficial for all the riders.
"Sunday will be challenging as we expect conditions similar to today's. We must thoroughly examine today's data and prepare accordingly for Sunday."
