Ducati Shake-Up: Gigi Dall’Igna Defends Marc Marquez Amid Major Team Changes
Ducati: Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Pramac Departure Not Due to Marc Marquez
Gigi Dall’Igna addresses the departure of Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Pramac from Ducati for the first time, clarifying it is not connected to Marc Marquez.
Since the Mugello race, Ducati has seen Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi join Aprilia, while Pramac, last year's MotoGP teams’ champions, has switched to Yamaha.
Both Martin and Bezzecchi decided to leave Ducati and seek opportunities with Aprilia's factory team. Meanwhile, the manufacturer opted to pair Marc Marquez with Francesco Bagnaia for the 2025 season.
Before Marquez dismissed the possibility of joining the Italian team, Pramac had been connected with him and was expected to remain with Ducati. However, Pramac has now signed a multi-year contract to switch to Yamaha. This means that Marquez has indirectly influenced all three of Ducati's recent setbacks.
However, when discussing the upcoming era for Ducati, Gigi Dall’Igna promptly stood up for Marquez.
“There’s no blame on Marc Marquez, and it’s not an issue at all,” stated Dall’Igna.
In truth, we've trained numerous riders, many of whom have become excellent competitors and champions. However, we eventually reach a point where we cannot maintain our partnership with them, as they need to seek out opportunities to ride the most suitable bikes for their needs.
"We're beginning a new chapter since [Fermin] Aldeguer will be joining us next year."
"We begin anew with a young cyclist, aiming to nurture them and discover the future champion."
It is yet to be determined which team Aldeguer will join, though there is growing speculation that it might be the VR46 team.
Dall’Igna acknowledged that a decision on this matter will be made soon: "We are working on it, and you will have all the details either at Sachsenring or shortly after."
Dall’Igna also discussed the departure of Martin, a colleague he has been collaborating with for four years.
Dall'Igna mentioned: "It's odd to talk about. We had discussions for four years, always knowing that we would carry on together the following year."
"For the first time, this weekend we realize that by the end of the year, our journey will take a different direction."
"It's unusual, but I still stand by him and provide all the necessary information to help him perform his duties. Since he remains a Ducati rider until the year's end, we aim for the best outcome for him."
