Ducati Restructures Factory Bike Allocation Post-Pramac Exit: Dall’Igna Outlines 2025 Strategy
Ducati outlines strategy for reallocating factory motorcycles following Pramac's departure
Ducati needs to determine the next steps for Pramac's factory equipment
Gigi Dall’Igna announced that Ducati plans to operate just three factory motorcycles in 2025.
Pramac's decision to switch to Yamaha for the next season has necessitated a reassessment.
Pramac enjoys the advantage of using the latest factory-spec equipment, just like Ducati's official team, whereas Gresini and VR46 are equipped with bikes from the previous year.
However, Dall’Igna mentioned that Ducati will decrease its fleet from eight to six motorcycles in 2025, and they will have one fewer factory bike.
"The objective is to maintain three current models and three from last year," the Ducati chief executive explained to Sky Italia.
“We believe it is the ideal combination for both rider development and economic reasons.
“We aim to achieve this, and while we are actively working towards it, we aren't prepared to make any announcements at this time.”
According to his proposal, either the Gresini team or VR46 team will receive a factory bike.
The allocation of that machine will be even more appealing to riders, especially since both of their rosters for 2025 are not yet fully filled.
Will Ducati face challenges due to reduced data?
Next year, with only six bikes instead of eight, Ducati will have a smaller pool of data to work with.
However, managing eight bikes likely demands significant effort from the Italian manufacturer, while handling six bikes might let them operate with less urgency.
"Having six bikes is definitely sufficient for us to maintain top performance in our work,” Dall’Igna stated.
"I would have liked eight, but six will suffice."
"The issue is that, actually, we found a way to accommodate eight bikes without causing any inconvenience to anyone."
"We likely outperformed the others in terms of organization when it came to handling these eight bikes. I believe we will manage just as effectively with six."
Focus will soon shift to the racers to finalize Ducati’s roster.
Pecco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez are set to join forces as part of their official team, while Alex Marquez has secured his place at Gresini.
Marco Bezzecchi has departed from VR46 to join Aprilia.
VR46 has two available spots, while Gresini has one open position.
Dall’Igna aims to retain one crucial and currently performing Ducati rider, however.
“He’s an outstanding motorcyclist,” he remarked.
"Last year, he secured victory in one race and had the potential to win a second."
"He is performing exceptionally well this season and, along with Marquez, is likely the rider who understands last year's bike the best."
"Our goal is to retain him in our teams here as well."
"This situation will be challenging because it's not solely up to us. However, we have a great relationship with him."
“I believe that Fermin Aldeguer will join one of our satellite teams. Although we're not prepared to announce anything at this moment, we will reach a conclusion shortly.”
