Ducati Navigates Turbulent Waters: Embraces Marc Marquez at the Cost of Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Pramac Partnership
Ducati acknowledges the unintended consequences of opting for Marc Marquez
Davide Tardozzi admits that parting ways with Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Pramac was a calculated risk following their decision to go with Marc Marquez.
Marc Marquez's move to the official Ducati team for the 2025 MotoGP championship has significantly influenced the Italian brand in three major aspects.
Ducati has experienced the departure of Jorge Martin, who has moved on to Aprilia.
After Martin opted to exit Ducati, Marco Bezzecchi followed suit, seeing his chances of securing a spot as a factory rider diminish unless he switched manufacturers.
The third significant consequence was Pramac's decision to switch from Ducati to Yamaha, a move that team leader Paolo Campinoti revealed was partly due to their preference for Marquez over Martin, prompting them to end their longstanding collaboration with Ducati in favor of joining Yamaha.
Before the Dutch MotoGP last weekend, Tardozzi shared with TNT Sports, "The choice was made after some time because the option of having Enea, Jorge Martin, and Marc join us presented a tough call, a very tough call."
"After several weeks of deliberation, the decision was ultimately reached in Mugello."
"The manufacturing plant, along with CEO Gigi Dall'Igna and Mauro Grassilli, played a constant role in reaching this conclusion. After extensive deliberations and thorough data analysis, the decision ultimately landed on Marc."
In response to allegations suggesting that Marquez's move to the factory team has resulted in unintended negative consequences, Tardozzi disagreed.
"The Lenovo Ducati team manager mentioned, 'The choice was made four years prior to enter a new phase with fresh riders, who have since matured.'"
"Ultimately, each of them matured as well, prompting us to select the appropriate riders."
