Dramatic Duel Costs Bastianini and Morbidelli a Podium Finish at German MotoGP
Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli discuss the intense battle that cost them a podium finish.
"I had a tough fight with Frankie, and it made us lose valuable time…"
Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli were both competing for a top-three position at the German MotoGP.
However, their struggle ultimately reduced their speed and eliminated any remaining chance they had of overtaking Alex Marquez, who finished on the podium.
Jorge Martin lost his leading position, which enabled Pecco Bagnaia to secure the victory and Marc Marquez to take second place.
Morbidelli secured an impressive sixth place in qualifying, but quickly found himself battling for second position with his Pramac teammate, Martin.
Bagnaia ultimately pushed Morbidelli back to third place, and then Alex Marquez overtook the Pramac rider.
Significantly, Morbidelli and Marc Marquez had a major collision – astonishingly, both riders managed to stay upright.
Marquez passed Morbidelli to claim fourth place, while factory Ducati racer Bastianini executed his signature late-race surge, advancing to fifth position.
Bastianini expressed his dissatisfaction by saying, "I'm not very pleased with not making it to the podium this time."
"The race has been challenging for me right from the beginning."
"I made errors with the rear mechanism, keeping the bike lowered throughout the entire lap."
“In the final stages, I attempted a comeback. With each lap, I improved. I nearly reached the podium.”
"When I was near him, I argued with Frankie. It wasted our time."
"Marc had left. And… there was absolutely nothing!"
Alex Marquez, holding onto third place, confessed he was cautious of Bastianini.
However, when Bastianini passed Morbidelli for fourth place, it allowed Alex sufficient time to clinch a spot on the podium.
Morbidelli commented on the German MotoGP: "I had a lot of fun. My pace was excellent, particularly during the first part of the race."
"I experienced a drop in performance, likely because I pushed the tires too hard and couldn't maintain my pace until the finish."
"However, I enjoyed myself. I made some overtakes early on."
"I felt confident that I could reach it, which is a good sign for us."
Morbidelli's season is gaining momentum, with P5 marking his second-best performance so far.
The trouble began with an injury sustained during the preseason.
Nevertheless, he is seeking a seat for 2025 as Pramac plans to switch from Ducati to Yamaha.
