Dominance and Disappointment: Unveiling the Dutch MotoGP Rider Ratings
Netherlands MotoGP Racer Evaluations: Concerning Marks for Riders Facing Challenges
Crash.net reviews the performances of riders in the Dutch MotoGP, highlighting Francesco Bagnaia's continued supremacy.
Francesco Bagnaia – 10
Throughout the weekend, Francesco Bagnaia was in impeccable form, setting a new all-time lap record, and topping every practice and qualifying session. His performance in the sprint race was nothing short of commanding, as he led from start to finish, giving Jorge Martin no chance to pass him. The grand prix saw Bagnaia replicate this dominance, leading every lap to the end. The Ducatii team's leading rider showcased his unparalleled skill, earning a perfect score for his remarkable double victory.
Jorge Martin – 9
Martin stood out as the primary challenger to Bagnaia in the initial stages of the sprint race, showcasing remarkable speed until he began to lose about two to three tenths of a second per lap to the current world champion. Even with a penalty that put him three places back on the grid for the grand prix, Martin quickly reclaimed the second position by the close of the first lap, once more putting up a strong fight against Bagnaia.
Enea Bastianini – 8.5
Despite a less-than-stellar start in the qualifying rounds, Enea Bastianini showcased exceptional skill during the sprint, navigating through the competition to secure 4th place. The Ducati racer continued his streak of impressive performances, earning consecutive podium finishes after executing yet another remarkable comeback in the grand prix. In his ascent, he managed to surpass Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Maverick Vinales, and Marc Marquez.
Marc Marquez – 7
Showing the speed to vie for a top-three finish, Marc Marquez's race was cut short on the second lap when he went down following a collision with the inner curb at the second turn. Despite a strong performance in the main race, missing a spot on the podium and falling further behind Bagnaia and Martin in points would have been a disappointment.
Fabio Di Giannantonio – 8
Fabio Di Giannantonio delivered an impressive performance, closely contending with fellow GP23 competitor Marc Marquez during the entire race. However, Di Giannantonio's aspirations for a top-three finish were dashed after Marquez executed a challenging maneuver on him at the sixth turn.
Maverick Vinales – 7.5
Maverick Vinales showed promise when he overtook Alex Marquez to claim the third spot and began to narrow the gap on the front runners, Bagnaia and Martin. Yet, that was as far as he would advance. During the race on Sunday, he seemed poised to secure a fourth-place finish until an error at turn 15 led him to veer off track, inadvertently allowing Marquez and Di Giannantonio to move ahead of him.
Brad Binder – 7
Brad Binder emerged as the leading KTM rider after Acosta's last-lap mishap. Despite facing challenges in keeping pace with the newcomer during the grand prix, the premier KTM racer managed to secure points in both events.
Alex Marquez – 6.5
Alex Marquez delivered one of his top performances of the 2024 season, showing strong competitiveness throughout the event and into the sprint, until a penalty for exceeding track limits caused the Gresini team member to fall to eighth place for opting not to complete his Long Lap penalty. Similarly, in the sprint, Marquez initially lost ground, moving out of the running for a podium finish and ultimately finishing in eighth place.
Raul Fernandez – 6
The Trackhouse competitor put on an impressive performance, surpassing his more seasoned teammate, Miguel Oliveira, once again.
Franco Morbidelli – 5.5
Despite starting from a promising seventh position on the grid for the Grand Prix, Franco Morbidelli experienced an uneventful race, managing to finish ahead of Jack Miller.
Jack Miller – 5.5
Finishing 13th in the sprint, Jack Miller made strides in the main event, demonstrating a quicker speed, yet he remained significantly behind Acosta and Binder in performance.
Fabio Quartararo – 5.5
Fabio Quartararo had a strong beginning in the race, moving up multiple spots. The champion of the 2021 season narrowly missed finishing in the top ten by less than 0.7 seconds.
Johann Zarco – 5
Following a challenging qualifying session and sprint race, Johann Zarco advanced impressively to become the leading Honda rider once more.
Augusto Fernandez – Rating: 4.5
Similar to Zarco, Fernandez advanced well, ultimately securing a 14th place finish. However, the letdown in his performance was the significant distance, over 30 seconds, that separated him from Acosta before the latter's crash, especially considering Acosta's status as the current Moto2 champion.
Miguel Oliveira – 4
The Portuguese competitor encountered another letdown in the race, crossing the finish line more than 20 seconds after his teammate Fernandez.
Takaaki Nakagami – 3
Finishing last in the qualifying round, Takaaki Nakagami ended up being the top rider not to secure any points.
Luca Marini – 3
Honda faced yet another frustrating event when Luca Marini had to bow out of the sprint race due to a technical problem. The situation did not improve in the main race, with the Italian rider crossing the finish line in the final position.
Pedro Acosta – 7
The newcomer faced a challenging weekend, but his fortunes changed during the race, placing him in contention for a spot on the podium. Unfortunately, his hopes diminished towards the end, culminating in a significant accident at turn seven.
Marco Bezzecchi – 3
Well behind his team-mate Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi's challenging 2024 season persisted as he experienced another Did Not Finish (DNF), this time resulting from a crash at turn five.
Alex Rins – 3
Caught on the track's outer edge at the first turn, Alex Rins experienced a severe highside crash that prematurely concluded his race.
Joan Mir – 2.5
The 2020 world champion, Joan Mir, faced another challenging race and did not finish, crashing out early in the competition.
