Dominance and Disappointment: Dutch MotoGP Rider Ratings Reveal Pressures and Triumphs
Dutch MotoGP Rider Scores: Concerning Evaluations for Riders Under Scrutiny
Crash.net reviews the performance ratings of MotoGP riders in the Netherlands after Francesco Bagnaia's latest commanding performance.
Francesco Bagnaia – 10
Francesco Bagnaia showcased an impressive performance by topping all practice sessions and qualifying with a new all-time lap record. He continued to demonstrate his dominance in the sprint race, maintaining the lead for every lap and leaving no room for Jorge Martin to pass. In the grand prix, Bagnaia once again led every lap, proving his superiority. The factory Ducati rider's exceptional weekend performance earns him a perfect score.
Jorge Martin – 9
Martin was the sole competitor who could consistently challenge Bagnaia at the start of the sprint race. Initially, he demonstrated remarkable speed but eventually lost about two to three-tenths of a second per lap to the current world champion. Even with a three-place grid penalty for the main race, Martin managed to climb back to second position by the end of the first lap, once more doing everything in his power to put pressure on Bagnaia.
Enea Bastianini – 8.5
Despite struggling in qualifying once more, Enea Bastianini showcased his talent in the sprint race by skillfully moving up the ranks to secure a fourth-place finish. The Ducati rider continued his impressive form with consecutive podium finishes in the grand prix, making a series of late overtakes against Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Maverick Vinales, and Marc Marquez.
Marc Marquez – 7
Marc Marquez demonstrated competitive speed that could have earned him a podium finish, but his sprint race came to an abrupt end on the second lap when he crashed after hitting the inside curb at turn two. Although he delivered a strong performance in the grand prix, failing to secure a podium spot and falling further behind Bagnaia and Martin in the standings was a setback for him.
Fabio Di Giannantonio – 8
Fabio Di Giannantonio delivered another impressive performance, consistently competing with fellow GP23 rider Marc Marquez during the race. However, his chances for a podium finish were dashed when Marquez executed an aggressive maneuver at turn six.
Maverick Vinales – 7.5
Following his successful overtake of Alex Marquez to secure third place, Maverick Vinales looked poised to challenge the front-runners, closing the gap on Bagnaia and Martin. Unfortunately, Vinales couldn't advance any further. In the race on Sunday, he appeared destined for a fourth-place finish until an error at turn 15 forced him to go wide, allowing Marquez and Di Giannantonio to pass him.
Brad Binder – 7
Brad Binder emerged as the leading KTM rider after Acosta's crash on the last lap. Despite facing challenges in keeping up with the rookie during the grand prix, the factory KTM standout managed to secure points in both races.
Alex Marquez – 6.5
In what has been one of his standout performances of the 2024 season, Alex Marquez showed strong competitiveness in every session, maintaining his form into the sprint. However, a track limits penalty caused the Gresini rider to fall to eighth place after he opted not to serve his Long Lap penalty. Similar to the sprint, Marquez initially lost ground, slipping out of podium contention before finishing in eighth position.
Raul Fernandez – 6
The Trackhouse racer delivered an impressive performance, once more outperforming his seasoned teammate Miguel Oliveira.
Franco Morbidelli – 5.5
Starting from seventh on the grid, Franco Morbidelli couldn't capitalize on his position and had a relatively uneventful race, ultimately finishing ahead of Jack Miller.
Jack Miller – 5.5
After finishing 13th in the sprint race, Jack Miller demonstrated better speed in the main race, moving up in the ranks. However, the Australian rider remained significantly slower compared to Acosta and Binder.
Fabio Quartararo – 5.5
Fabio Quartararo began the race on a strong note, advancing multiple spots. The 2021 world champion narrowly missed securing a top ten finish, falling short by under seven-tenths of a second.
Johann Zarco – 5
Despite facing challenges in both qualifying and the sprint race, Johann Zarco managed to improve his performance, ultimately securing the position of the leading Honda rider once more.
Augusto Fernandez – 4.5
Similar to Zarco, Augusto Fernandez showed significant improvement and finished in 14th place. However, a letdown in his performance was the substantial time difference to Acosta prior to Acosta's crash. Fernandez was trailing the current Moto2 champion by more than 30 seconds.
Miguel Oliveira – 4
The Portuguese racer had another letdown, trailing his teammate Fernandez by more than 20 seconds at the finish.
Takaaki Nakagami – 3
Takaaki Nakagami, who qualified last, was the first racer to complete the race without earning any points.
Luca Marini – 3
Honda faced yet another frustrating weekend, with Luca Marini having to withdraw from the sprint race due to a mechanical problem. Unfortunately, his luck didn't improve in the main event, where he ended up in the last position.
Pedro Acosta – 7
The rookie faced a challenging weekend, but the grand prix saw a significant turnaround as Acosta contended for a podium spot. However, his bid diminished late in the race, culminating in a major crash at turn seven.
Marco Bezzecchi – 3
Marco Bezzecchi’s difficult 2024 season persists, as he was far from matching his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio and faced another disappointment with a crash at turn five leading to a DNF.
Alex Rins – 3
Caught on the outer edge of turn one, Alex Rins experienced a severe highside crash that prematurely concluded his race.
Joan Mir – 2.5
Joan Mir faced yet another challenging race, ending with a Did Not Finish (DNF) after an early crash, continuing a difficult season for the 2020 world
