Dominance and Disappointment: Bagnaia Shines While Others Struggle in Dutch MotoGP Ratings
Netherlands MotoGP Racer Evaluations: Concerning marks for riders facing scrutiny
Following Francesco Bagnaia's latest commanding performance, Crash.net has reviewed the ratings of MotoGP competitors in the Netherlands.
Francesco Bagnaia – 10
Francesco Bagnaia set the pace throughout the weekend, breaking the all-time lap record during qualifying and leading every practice session. His dominance extended into the sprint race, where he maintained the lead from start to finish, giving Jorge Martin no chance to pass him. The trend continued in the main grand prix, with Bagnaia leading every single lap, showcasing an unparalleled level of dominance. The Ducati team's leading rider earned top marks for his exceptional performance across both races.
Jorge Martin – 9
Martin emerged as the sole competitor who consistently challenged Bagnaia during the initial stages of the sprint race, maintaining impressive speeds until he started to lose approximately two to three tenths of a second per lap to the current world champion. Even with a three-place penalty on the grid for the grand prix, Martin managed to reclaim the second position by the conclusion of the first lap, once more putting forth all effort to contest Bagnaia's lead.
Enea Bastianini – 8.5
Despite a less-than-ideal start in qualifying, Enea Bastianini showcased his exceptional skill during the sprint, navigating through the competitors to secure the fourth position. The Ducati racer achieved consecutive podium finishes, thanks to his remarkable comeback in the main race, where he managed to pass Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Maverick Vinales, and Marc Marquez.
Marc Marquez – 7
Marc Marquez showed speed that could have seen him vie for a top-three finish, but his race came to an early end on the second lap when he hit the inner curb at the second turn, leading to a crash. Although Marquez put in a commendable performance in the grand prix, not securing a spot on the podium and falling further behind Bagnaia and Martin in points will likely be disappointing for him.
Fabio Di Giannantonio – 8
Fabio Di Giannantonio delivered an impressive performance, consistently competing with his GP23 peer Marc Marquez during the entire race. However, Di Giannantonio's aspirations for a top-three finish were dashed after Marquez executed a challenging maneuver on him at the sixth turn.
Maverick Vinales – 7.5
Upon overtaking Alex Marquez for the third spot, Maverick Vinales appeared as a contender for the top two positions, narrowing the gap with Bagnaia and Martin. Nonetheless, Vinales's advancement halted at that point. During the race on Sunday, Vinales seemed poised for a fourth-place finish until an error at turn 15 led him to veer off course, consequently surrendering his position to Marquez and Di Giannantonio.
Brad Binder – 7
Emerging as the leading KTM rider after Acosta's last-lap accident, Brad Binder couldn't quite keep up with the newcomer throughout the race. Nonetheless, the premier KTM racer secured points finishes in both events.
Alex Marquez – 6.5
This performance stands out as one of Alex Marquez's top efforts in the 2024 season, demonstrating competitiveness throughout every phase, including the sprint, until a penalty for exceeding track limits relegated the Gresini team member to eighth place, following his decision against taking the Long Lap penalty. Similarly, in the sprint, Marquez lost ground early, falling out of the running for a podium finish and ultimately securing the eighth position.
Raul Fernandez put on an impressive performance, surpassing his more seasoned team-mate Miguel Oliveira with another standout effort for Trackhouse, scoring a 6.
Franco Morbidelli – 5.5
Despite starting from an impressive seventh position on the grid, Franco Morbidelli experienced an uneventful race, managing to finish ahead of Jack Miller.
Jack Miller – 5.5
Finishing 13th in the sprint race, Jack Miller demonstrated better speed in the primary race, yet he remained significantly behind the pace set by Acosta and Binder.
Fabio Quartararo – 5.5
Fabio Quartararo had a strong opening in the race, advancing multiple spots. The champion of 2021 narrowly missed securing a position in the top ten by a slender margin of less than seven tenths.
Johann Zarco – 5
Following a challenging qualifying session and sprint race, Johann Zarco showed significant improvement, securing the highest position among the Honda riders once more.
Augusto Fernandez – 4.5
Similar to Zarco, Augusto Fernandez advanced well, securing a 14th place finish. However, the letdown in his performance was the significant distance from Acosta prior to his crash. Fernandez trailed the current Moto2 champion by more than 30 seconds.
Miguel Oliveira – 4
It was another letdown for the rider from Portugal, ending the race more than 20 seconds after his teammate Fernandez.
Takaaki Nakagami – 3
Finishing last in the qualifying round, Takaaki Nakagami ended up being the earliest competitor to not score any points.
Luca Marini – 3
Honda faced yet another challenging weekend, with Luca Marini having to bow out of the sprint race due to a mechanical problem. The situation didn’t see any improvement during the grand prix, where the Italian ended up at the bottom of the standings.
Pedro Acosta – 7
Initially, the weekend seemed challenging for the newcomer, but his fortunes reversed during the race, putting him in contention for the podium. However, his hopes diminished towards the end, culminating in a significant accident at turn seven.
Marco Bezzecchi – 3
Falling significantly short of the performance of his teammate, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Marco Bezzecchi's disappointing 2024 season persisted as he failed to finish once more, this time because of a crash at turn five.
Alex Rins – 3
Caught in an unfortunate position on the exterior of the track at the first turn, Alex Rins experienced a severe highside crash that prematurely concluded his race.
Joan Mir – 2.5
Yet another difficult competition ended in disappointment for Joan Mir, the world champion of 2020, as he failed to finish due to an early crash.
