Daniel Ricciardo’s ‘Half-Hearted and Confusing’ F1 Exit Raises Ethical Questions, Says Martin Brundle
Daniel Ricciardo's anticipated departure from F1 described as "lukewarm and perplexing"
Martin Brundle puzzled by the way Daniel Ricciardo is predicted to leave RB.
Martin Brundle described Daniel Ricciardo's likely last Formula 1 race at the Singapore Grand Prix as "lackluster and bewildering".
Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo ended the race in Singapore in 18th place. He made a late stop to switch to a fresh set of soft tires, which allowed him to clock the fastest lap, thereby preventing Lando Norris and McLaren from earning an additional point.
This strategy, which sparked ethical concerns and prompted McLaren to demand an investigation into the connection between Red Bull and RB, advantaged Max Verstappen in his current championship fight against Norris.
In his column for Sky following the race, former F1 driver and now commentator Brundle expressed his feelings of bewilderment.
"Sergio Perez managed to secure a 10th place finish for the second Red Bull car, starting from 13th on the grid, marking another letdown. Brundle noted that this issue poses significant concerns for Red Bull as they approach the 2025 season."
The RB sister team graciously called Daniel Ricciardo in for new tires just before the race ended, allowing him to achieve the fastest lap. Although this didn't score him any championship points, it crucially prevented Norris and McLaren from earning those points. McLaren, meanwhile, is protesting what they view as unfair tactics, since their main competitor has two teams competing.
Daniel's recent race might be his final appearance in Formula 1, at least for the time being, if not permanently. The departure seemed somewhat lackluster and unclear from the team's viewpoint. In a gesture of appreciation, the fans named him driver of the day as a parting gift. His career statistics now stand at 257 starts, 8 victories, 3 pole positions, and 32 podium finishes, along with countless smiles and delighted supporters.
"Congratulations to him and best wishes for his future endeavors. He's an exceptional person and an elite driver."
Liam Lawson is set to drive his Red Bull car starting from the Austin race, providing him with an opportunity to demonstrate that he deserves a spot on the 2025 grid with one of the two Red Bull teams.
Red Bull's reserve driver, Liam Lawson, is anticipated to take over Ricciardo's spot at RB by the time the United States Grand Prix occurs in October.
