Daniel Ricciardo Edges Out Liam Lawson for 2025 Red Bull F1 Drive, Despite Tsunoda Challenge
Daniel Ricciardo is considered the frontrunner over Liam Lawson for the 2025 Red Bull Formula 1 seat. Ricciardo is the leading candidate to join Yuki Tsunoda on the team in 2025.
Daniel Ricciardo is currently considered the "marginal favorite" to stay with RB alongside Yuki Tsunoda for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Red Bull has not yet determined who will join Ricciardo as his teammate.
The team revealed on Saturday during the Canadian Grand Prix that they have decided to extend Tsunoda's contract, ensuring he remains with the team for the upcoming year.
Red Bull has two choices for 2025: Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson.
Due to his extensive experience and strong marketability, Ricciardo is currently the leading candidate despite his less impressive performances on the track.
In all areas, Tsunoda has surpassed the Australian's performance in 2024.
Despite the challenges, Ricciardo had a solid performance in Canada, securing fifth place in the qualifiers and ending the race in eighth position.
According to Craig Slater from Sky Sports F1, Ricciardo appears to be leading Lawson in the competition for a seat with RB in 2025.
Slater announced that Yuki Tsunoda has extended his contract to remain with Red Bull's junior team through 2025.
RB mentioned that Tsunoda has made significant advancements as they announced the extension of his contract. Tsunoda expressed that it feels great to have his future settled so early in the season.
This season, the Japanese driver has consistently outshone Daniel Ricciardo, which means the other Red Bull seat will go to either Ricciardo or Liam Lawson.
“I’m getting information that Ricciardo might currently be the leading candidate.”
At present, all indications seem to favor Ricciardo.
Multiple sources indicate that Red Bull chief Christian Horner is offering support to Ricciardo.
Given that Sergio Perez has extended his contract with Red Bull for the next two years, Ricciardo has very few alternatives outside of the Red Bull team.
Lawson stood out while temporarily filling in for the team after Ricciardo got injured mid-last year.
