Critically Acclaimed 2024 Kia EV9 Hit with Recall Over Remote Parking Glitch
The 2024 model of the Kia EV9 has been subject to a recall due to a malfunction in the software that controls the vehicle's remote parking feature. This issue has arisen shortly after the car received widespread praise upon its release.
The NHTSA has announced that a recall has been issued for 12,400 units of the EV9 GT-Line and Land models equipped with a system that enables the vehicle to be driven remotely into and out of parking spots, with the driver controlling the car from outside via a button on the key fob. The issue lies in the vehicle's software, which could potentially make errors in determining the required distance to come to a stop.

The issue arises from a flaw in the car's onboard brake control system software, and it happens when the parking assist feature repeatedly halts the vehicle at speeds around 2 mph or less, as pointed out by the NHTSA. This defect can lead to longer distances needed to stop the car, heightening the chance of accidents.
The solution involves updating the software for the electronic brake system at no cost to the customer. Although certain car manufacturers like Tesla have rectified recall issues through remote updates, this particular fix requires a visit to an authorized dealer.
