Thanks to an expansive panoramic glass roof measuring 928 millimeters in length and 702 millimeters in width, which can also be opened to allow fresh air inside, the interior of the new Outlander PHEV is bathed in natural light.
The rear seats can be split in a 40:20:40 ratio, offering adjustable configurations to suit different cargo needs, while an enlarged trunk opening and a more spacious interior make loading and unloading more convenient. The trunk capacity starts at a generous 495 liters, providing ample space for everyday essentials. For larger items, the available space can be increased to a maximum of 1,404 liters by simply folding down the rear seats using an easy-to-operate folding mechanism.
Propulsion
In an effort to present Mitsubishi customers with a compelling all-inclusive deal, the new Outlander PHEV has undergone significant modifications in terms of propulsion. The core of these enhancements is a thoroughly revamped plug-in hybrid propulsion system with an expanded electric range. It promises the acceleration dynamics characteristic of electric vehicles and improved smoothness of operation, aiming to deliver a quieter and more enjoyable driving experience.
The apparatus merges a four-cylinder gasoline engine with a duo of potent electric motors and an expanded lithium-ion battery array – paired with a shift-by-wire transmission system, leading to a power increase of roughly 40 percent compared to its predecessor model.

The latest power battery features a total capacity of 22.7 kWh, which allows the Outlander PHEV to travel a greater distance using only electric power, without the need for the internal combustion engine. According to the WLTP testing process, this means it can cover up to 86 kilometers on purely electric operation.
The front-mounted electric motor produces 85 kW of power and 255 Nm of torque, while the rear unit generates 100 kW of power and 195 Nm of torque. Thanks to an integrated motor control, the rear drive unit is housed in a more compact casing, allowing for a more streamlined design of the drivetrain.
The Japanese D-SUV has seen advancements in its efficiency as well. With reduced internal resistance, the updated larger battery is designed to produce a continuous output that is reportedly 108% greater than the previous model. Additionally, the introduction of a new liquid cooling system ensures that the battery's full capacity can be utilized at all times.
Additionally, the latest Outlander PHEV is equipped with an embedded heat pump system that lessens the electrical consumption even with the air conditioning on, ensuring the electric range is maximized even in winter conditions.
Despite the fundamental specifications of the combustion engine (2360 cc displacement, dual overhead camshafts, 16 valves) being similar to its predecessor, the engineers have enhanced the system with the addition of exhaust gas recirculation, expanded cooling channels, and an integrated exhaust manifold to improve fuel efficiency and performance.
