Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Exit from Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg started with the Trackhouse team back when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team at its launch in 2019. He is now set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project after their second season with the Noale brand, marking their first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described the decision to let Zeelenberg go as "very difficult." He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "a new direction."
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's exit was a topic of conversation between them. They both agreed on this decision. Brivio also expressed significant appreciation for Wilco Zeelenberg's contributions.
"To be honest, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has created."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we might need to take a different path. While it's disappointing in some ways, it's just part of business in other ways."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
