Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia Post-2024 Season at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was originally known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, which is its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In a conversation with Simon Crafar from MotoGP.com in the pit lane before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio—who became a part of Trackhouse in early 2024—described Zeelenberg's exit as a "very tough" decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to explore "a different direction."
"This is a topic that we have talked about," Brivio mentioned regarding Zeelenberg's departure. "We came to this conclusion together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has constructed over the years. Moreover, the majority of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his work."
“As Trackhouse, we believed that, looking ahead, it was necessary to explore a new path. While it’s disappointing in some ways, it’s also just part of the business.”
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who once secured a victory in a 250cc Grand Prix, initially served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales within the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
