Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season. This confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg would be departing from the team after the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was initially launched as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project. This move comes after the team’s second season working with the Noale brand, and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “a new direction”.
"This [Zeelenberg leaving] was a topic of discussion," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco [Zeelenberg] deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
To be truthful, when I got here, I discovered that he had assembled this team over the years. Additionally, most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts.
“As Trackhouse, we believed that for the future, we needed to explore a different path. It is unfortunate in some ways, but it's also a business decision.
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
Zeelenberg's future remains undecided at this point. The Dutchman, who once claimed victory in a 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for both Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in Yamaha's factory MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager there.
