Brivio Confirms Zeelenberg’s Departure from Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, a confirmation made during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was originally the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after their second season with the Noale brand, which is their first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg's exit was a "very difficult" decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "a different direction".
“We talked about Zeelenberg leaving,” Brivio stated. “It was a mutual decision. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be truthful, I came here and found a team that he has developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves major recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's also just part of the business."
"It has consistently been a challenging situation, and reaching this decision has been extremely tough."
The future plans for Zeelenberg are yet to be clarified. Zeelenberg, who has a past as a 250cc Grand Prix victor, held the position of team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
