Brivio Confirms: Sachsenring Marks Raul Fernandez’s Final Race on 2023 Aprilia RS-GP
Brivio confirms: 'Raul Fernandez's final race on the 2023 Aprilia will be at Sachsenring'
Davide Brivio stated: 'Sachsenring will mark Raul's final appearance on the 2023 Aprilia RS-GP'
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse team, has announced that this weekend's German MotoGP will be Raul Fernandez's final race using the old 2023-spec RS-GP.
At present, the Spanish rider is the sole member of the Aprilia team who does not have the 2024 model of the bike. However, the manufacturer has promised to upgrade his equipment at the earliest opportunity
According to regulations, engine specifications cannot be altered throughout the season unless the manufacturer is ranked in the lowest concession tier, like Honda and Yamaha. The 2024 Aprilia engine is believed to closely resemble the design from the previous year.
Fernandez, who is ranked 12th in the world championship, will test the 2024 model for the first time after the summer break at Silverstone, aligning with Aprilia's mid-season fairing update.
"Brivio mentioned before the Sachsenring race that it would be Raul's final competition on the 2023 Aprilia RS-GP."
Following a terrible beginning to the year, which included getting hurt on the first day of the Sepang test and withdrawing from the first two races, the young Spanish rider momentarily led the Catalunya Sprint. He secured the team's top finish of the season by coming in sixth the following day and, after undergoing surgery for arm pump, returned to the top ten at Assen, finishing eighth.
Fernandez expressed his happiness, stating that the team achieved a positive outcome in Assen. He mentioned they performed well at the event and emphasized the importance of recovering fully from a significant and painful crash he experienced there. Fernandez is confident that a few days of rest will aid in his recovery and help him feel better.
"For the Sachsenring race, my main objective is to maintain happiness, strive to reach Q2, and take things one step at a time. Staying calm and relaxed is crucial because we perform best and enjoy racing the most when we're not stressed. This is my target for the Germany event too."
The Aprilia factory team has officially announced that Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi will be part of their new line-up, but Trackhouse has not yet revealed any riders for the year 2025.
Aprilia's desire for consistency suggests that at least one member of the Trackhouse pair is likely to remain, and Fernandez’s recent performance has been perfectly timed.
At the same time, Miguel Oliveira, who has won five races with KTM and was given a 2024 model at the beginning of this year, is currently sitting in 16th place in the rankings.
Miguel Oliveira described the Sachsenring as a distinct and fascinating circuit, noting its short length and abundance of left-hand turns. He mentioned that he has typically been very competitive in Germany and is eagerly anticipating the final race of the first half of the season before the break. Oliveira aims to quickly adapt to the RS-GP24 and finish strong with good performance and points.
