Brad Binder’s Strategic Struggles and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Heartbreak at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder: "I had another rolling burnout!", Jack Miller: "Rins got past me."
Brad Binder: "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning at the start…"
Brad Binder achieved his best MotoGP results since the season's first race in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This happened even though he veered off track in both races, and despite starting seventh on a less dusty part of the grid.
During the middle stages of the race, Binder was trailing behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This pursuit turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia clashed with five laps remaining.
However, Acosta managed to stay just beyond grasp.
"Last night, I came up with an excellent strategy to avoid spinning out at the start, and I managed to do a rolling burnout just like I did the day before," Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others, up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire was completely worn out by the end."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no more room from behind!"
"Aside from that, we made several promising advancements this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller made an impressive start, advancing from 15th place on the grid to eighth by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced difficulties with maintaining rear traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and missing out on ninth place, he was one of three riders penalized with an additional 16 seconds for tyre pressure violations after the race, causing him to fall to 15th position.
“It was a lengthy race,” Miller remarked. “The track conditions varied once more. It has been dirty for the majority of the weekend, but today it felt slipperier.”
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident coming out of the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when moving from the outer part to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it challenging to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to work hard."
"Pleased to secure a top ten finish, but Rins overtook me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying to be as accurate as possible, but I didn't get a good drive, and he managed to outpace me down the stretch."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM will have five riders in total, as test rider Pol Espargaro will join as a wild-card entry.
“Now head to Misano with an eye on the subsequent test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide us with some future benefits,” remarked team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently occupies fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, poised to potentially be announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently holds the 15th position in standings, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
