Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Drama: Highlights from a Thrilling Aragon MotoGP Weekend
Brad Binder exclaimed, “I did another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned, “Rins got the better of me.”
Brad Binder shared, "I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP performance since the season began in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at the Aragon race.
This happened despite him veering off course in both races, although his seventh-place finish came from a relatively clean start on a messy grid.
During the middle portion of the race, Binder was trailing rookie Pedro Acosta. Their competition turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia had a collision with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta managed to stay just beyond reach.
"Last night, I came up with a solid strategy to avoid spinning out at the start, and I executed another rolling burnout just like I did the day before!" Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through the pack and overtook several riders. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating from following others, especially until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since entering them quickly was difficult due to the front tire overheating. Unfortunately, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
“I put in my utmost effort to overtake Pedro, but there was no more room behind him!”
"Aside from that, we took some notably positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the duration of the race."
Jack Miller, starting from 15th position, made an impressive start and climbed to eighth place by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly faced difficulties with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins in the final lap and finishing ninth, he, along with two other riders, was handed a 16-second penalty for not meeting tyre pressure regulations, which pushed him down to 15th place.
“It was quite a lengthy race,” remarked Miller. “The track conditions changed once more; it’s been dirty for most of the weekend but appeared to be greasier today."
"I gave it my all. It was really challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a major highside moment while exiting the final corner."
"I found my groove and focused on maintaining it. There were several constraints when transitioning from the tire's edge to its center… but I managed to finish successfully."
“There weren’t any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We’ll keep working hard.”
“I'm pleased to finish in the top ten, but it was frustrating to get overtaken by Rins on the final lap's back straight. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I didn't get a good exit, and he managed to outpace me there."
“We will return to Misano once more.”
This weekend, KTM will have a total of five riders, including test rider Pol Espargaro, who has been given a wild-card entry.
“Next, we head to Misano, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which will provide us with some valuable insights for the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will begin with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, with Acosta currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently sits 15th in the standings, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
