Brad Binder Battles Burnouts, While Miller Gets ‘Nipped by Rins’ in Aragon MotoGP Thriller
Brad Binder remarked, “I ended up doing another rolling burnout!” Meanwhile, Jack Miller commented on being “overtaken by Rins.” Binder added, “I had devised a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning at the start…”
Brad Binder had his most successful MotoGP weekend since the season started in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This occurred even though he veered off course in both races, and his seventh-place finish came from the more favorable side of a grid that was otherwise messy.
During the middle phase of the race, Binder trailed behind rookie Pedro Acosta. This developed into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond reach.
"I came up with an excellent strategy last night to avoid losing control at the start, and I managed to do another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through the field and overtake several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating when following others, especially up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to recover time by accelerating out of the corners since entering too quickly wasn't an option due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
"I made every effort to overtake Pedro, but there was no more room behind him!"
"Additionally, we made significant progress over the weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the duration of the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had an impressive start, moving up from 15th to 8th place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced issues with maintaining rear tire traction.
Following a last-lap battle where Alex Rins overtook him for ninth place, he was subsequently one of three riders penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure violations, which relegated him to 15th position.
"It was a lengthy race," Miller commented. "The track conditions varied once more; it had been dirty for most of the weekend but felt more slippery today."
"I put in my utmost effort. It was quite challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when moving from the side to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll keep working hard."
Thrilled to finish in the top ten, but Rins edged me out on the back straight during the final lap. I tried my best to be accurate, but a poor drive allowed him to overtake me.
“We’ll return to Misano once more.”
KTM will have five riders on the track this weekend, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we will head to Misano with an eye on the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide valuable assistance for our future endeavors,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The opening round of the Misano MotoGP will see Binder trailing Acosta by three points, with Acosta currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might receive official confirmation as a Pramac Yamaha rider during the team's Italian home races, is currently in 15th place and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
