Binder Battles Burnouts and Miller Gets Nipped by Rins: Thrills and Spills at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, "Once more, I ended up doing a rolling burnout!" Jack Miller mentioned he was "overtaken by Rins."
Brad Binder shared, "I devised an excellent strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his most successful MotoGP weekend since the season began in Qatar, achieving 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
Even though he spun off the line in both races, he still managed to secure seventh place, which was on the cleaner side of a messy starting grid.
During the middle part of the race, Binder trailed behind newcomer Pedro Acosta. This competition turned into a fight for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta managed to remain just beyond reach.
Last night, I came up with a solid strategy to avoid spinning out at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did the day before!" Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire overheated when trailing others, up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating quickly out of the corners since I couldn't enter them at high speed due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired in the end, leaving the left side of the tire completely worn out."
“I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no room to maneuver from behind!”
"Aside from that, we made several encouraging improvements this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a solid start, moving from 15th position at the beginning to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian encountered issues with rear grip.
After narrowly missing ninth place to Alex Rins on the final lap, he was one of three riders penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tire pressure issues, which pushed him down to 15th place.
“It was a lengthy race,” commented Miller. “The track conditions varied once more; it has been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it appeared even more slippery.
“I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final turn.
"I found my pace and aimed to maintain it. There were several challenges transitioning from the side to the center of the tire… but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had difficulty keeping up with the leaders. We'll continue to persevere."
"I'm pleased to finish in the top ten, but it was frustrating to be overtaken by Rins on the final lap's back straight. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I didn't get a good acceleration and he managed to outpace me."
"We'll return to Misano."
KTM will have a total of five riders this weekend, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins the lineup on a wild-card entry.
“Next, we head to Misano, where we’ll also focus on the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide valuable assistance for our future plans,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP event will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place and just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
