Bastianini and Morbidelli’s Fierce Battle Costs Podium Dreams at German MotoGP
Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli share thoughts on intense rivalry that prevented a podium finish
"I battled with Frankie. It cost us time…."
Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli were both contenders for a top-three finish at the German MotoGP.
However, their struggle ended up hindering both of their speeds, eliminating the slight possibility they had of reaching Alex Marquez, who secured the third spot on the podium.
Jorge Martin lost the lead, which enabled Pecco Bagnaia to secure victory, with Marc Marquez coming in second.
Morbidelli secured an impressive sixth-place qualifying position, quickly finding himself battling for second place with his Pramac teammate Martin.
Bagnaia eventually overtook Morbidelli, relegating him to third place, before the Pramac rider was surpassed by Alex Marquez, losing his position.
Interestingly, there was a significant collision involving Morbidelli and Marc Marquez – astonishingly, both riders managed to stay upright.
Marquez surpassed Morbidelli to claim the fourth position, simultaneously, Ducati's own Bastianini launched his signature aggressive push, advancing to fifth place.
"Failing to secure a spot on the podium this time, I'm quite dissatisfied," Bastianini expressed.
"The competition proved challenging from the very beginning, right from the initial lap.
"Due to errors I committed concerning the back mechanism, I completed the entire circuit with the motorcycle lowered."
In the final stages, I attempted a comeback. With each lap, my performance improved. I nearly reached the podium.
As I approached him, I engaged in a conflict with Frankie. Time was wasted.
"Marc had left, and there was simply nothing left behind."
Alex Marquez, holding onto third place, acknowledged his cautiousness towards Bastianini.
However, Bastianini's move to pass Morbidelli and take fourth place afforded Alex sufficient opportunity to clinch a spot on the podium.
Morbidelli shared his thoughts on the German MotoGP, expressing significant enjoyment. He highlighted his notable pace, particularly during the race's initial stages.
"After that, my performance declined. It's likely that I pushed the tyres too hard and wasn't able to maintain my pace all the way through."
"However, I enjoyed myself. I made several passes at the start."
"I felt confident about reaching our goal, which is a good sign for us."
Morbidelli has achieved his second-highest finish of the season as the competition starts to heat up.
The onset was marked by an injury incurred during the preseason.
Nonetheless, he is actively seeking a seat for the 2025 season as Pramac gears up to switch from Ducati to Yamaha.
