Bagnaia Out of the Loop: Ducati’s Decision to Sign Marquez as Teammate Shocks the Favorite Ahead of Dutch MotoGP
Francesco Bagnaia states he was not consulted about Ducati's choice to bring Marc Marquez on board as his teammate.
Francesco Bagnaia heads into this weekend's Dutch MotoGP as the top contender, following his victories in the previous two Grand Prix events in Assen.
Nonetheless, the conversation leading up to the weekend was dominated by discussions about Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez, who were both the subject of numerous inquiries regarding their recent decisions.
Marquez has been chosen over Martin to team up with Bagnaia for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Bagnaia, despite his previous support for Enea Bastianini to remain, acknowledges that he played no role in Ducati's decision-making process.
"Bagnaia expressed his viewpoint, stating, 'The reason I wasn’t part of the decision-making process is due to my own request,'"
"I aimed to concentrate solely on the race circuit, and in both instances, the scenario was quite similar. Jorge and Marc are exceptionally quick."
Currently, Jorge has developed a stronger connection and greater familiarity with the motorcycle, leading to improved speed.
"However, the pace of my new team-mate was quite comparable. It's a fresh challenge and a new competitor for me to overcome. I'm looking forward to it."
"Marc possesses a high level of intelligence and will seamlessly integrate with the team, enhancing our current circumstances."
In his initial seasons on the circuit, Bagnaia cohabitated in a motorhome with Martin for a duration of two years.
Bagnaia has often emphasized the importance of collaboration among riders to enhance the motorcycle's performance.
Despite Marquez being relatively fresh to the Ducati team, Bagnaia is confident that the eight-time world champion will adjust in a manner that benefits the squad.
Bagnaia commented, "Embarking on this journey with Marc is completely fresh territory for us. We're strangers to each other, something we'll start to navigate in the coming year."
