Bagnaia Optimistic About Ducati’s Slimmer MotoGP Lineup: A Strategic Shift for 2025
Francesco Bagnaia discusses Ducati's drop in motorcycles: “Having eight bikes was overwhelming…”
Francesco Bagnaia acknowledges that Ducati's cutback from eight to six MotoGP motorcycles might actually benefit them.
Francesco Bagnaia thinks that Ducati trimming down to fewer MotoGP motorcycles might enable them to concentrate better on their leading racers by 2025.
Last weekend in Assen, Pramac made a striking transition to Yamaha, which results in Ducati losing two motorcycles in 2025 and having to reassign their additional batch of top-tier GP25 models to either Gresini or VR46.
However, Bagnaia contends that despite the reduction to two bikes resulting in less information, it's not entirely negative. He believes this allows the Italian manufacturer to concentrate more on its existing lineup of riders and motorcycles.
Bagnaia expressed, "Upon hearing the news a couple of years back that Ducati planned to introduce eight motorcycles, my initial reaction wasn't fear, but rather a concern. I pondered how adding two additional bikes, while keeping the engineering team unchanged, might pose a challenge."
Currently, my perspective differs. By having fewer engineers and bikes, it allows for greater concentration on our existing projects.
"The key point is the addition of two more factory bikes. I sincerely wish for two additional factory bikes to be included as it's crucial for progress. Let's wait and see."
Bagnaia, currently enjoying a streak of five straight victories, including sprint events, came close to clinching a win at Sachsenring in the previous season.
An exhilarating clash with Jorge Martin unfolded, and the current world champion aims to improve by securing a higher position in 2024.
"Bagnaia stated, "I'm definitely going to give it my all. Last year, on Sunday, I managed to put in an excellent performance, but I couldn't secure a victory over Jorge. In the final laps, his defense was just too strong."
"Passing him proved to be quite a challenge. I wasn't fully on my game as I was dealing with some discomfort from a recent crash at Le Mans."
"I recall my performance capabilities being quite strong. The top five positions were all held by Ducatis, indicating our motorcycle was exceptionally well-suited for the track. This sets us up for another exciting competition."
