Bagnaia Dominates Friday Sessions at Dutch MotoGP Amid Dramatic Practice Rounds
Dutch MotoGP: Francesco Bagnaia Dominates Friday Sessions
Francesco Bagnaia dominates Friday sessions at the Dutch MotoGP.
Ducati quickly stood out during the second practice session at Assen, with MotoGP championship hopefuls Jorge Martin, Francesco Bagnaia, and Marc Marquez trading the top spot on the timesheets.
Alex Marquez continued his impressive performance from the first practice session, securing a spot in the top four, surpassing his brother.
Martin initially recorded the fastest time shortly after the hour-long session commenced, but he was quickly overtaken by Bagnaia, who posted a time of 1:32.229.
After a sluggish beginning to the first practice session, Pedro Acosta began to demonstrate his capabilities, advancing to the fourth position.
Aleix Espargaro initially erred at turn ten and then faltered again by overshooting the final chicane.
Factory Ducati rider Enea Bastianini made an even more significant error when he nearly experienced a major highside while exiting turn 12.
Without delay, Bagnaia demonstrated his speed by clocking a lap time under 1 minute and 32 seconds with half of the session still to go, establishing a four-tenths of a second advantage over Martin.
Marc Marquez, who initiated his time attack quite early, managed to improve by half a second, moving into second place. However, he remained two-tenths of a second behind Bagnaia's time.
Maverick Vinales was next to attempt a time attack, using a soft front tire and a medium rear tire. He moved into second place, just ahead of Marquez.
Vinales once again had his lap time nullified for breaching track boundaries during this session.
During his second attempt, Vinales succeeded in completing a lap, taking the lead by three-tenths of a second. Nevertheless, Bagnaia promptly countered with a lap time of 1:31.340.
Marc Marquez, who was on track to advance into the top three positions, was forced to abort his quick lap due to a significant front-end shake at turn 14.
Late in the event, Bastianini and Espargaro both experienced crashes, and Espargaro needed assistance from the marshals to be carried off on a stretcher.
Before that, Espargaro was observed moving through the gravel.
Espargaro's teammate, Vinales, finished in second place behind Bagnaia, while Alex Marquez led the group of Espargaro, Martin, and Marc Marquez to complete the top six positions.
