Bagnaia Braces for Marquez ‘Storm’ as Ducati Super Team Looms: An Inside Look at the Upcoming MotoGP Showdown
Francesco Bagnaia has received a caution that a "storm is approaching" with Marc Marquez joining him as a teammate at Ducati.
Francesco Bagnaia maintained his outstanding performance last weekend at Assen, securing victories in both the sprint race and the Dutch MotoGP, finishing ahead of Jorge Martin.
Heading into the weekend, all eyes were on Martin and especially Marc Marquez, who is set to join forces with Bagnaia to form an exceptional duo for Ducati in 2025.
Anticipating a spectacular showdown, sports analyst Neil Hodgson from TNT shared his insights on the upcoming season's possible clash.
Hodgson mentioned, "Pecco is aware that a significant challenge is on the horizon. Marc usually prefers to dominate the garage scene, engaging in celebrations and typically aims to win everyone's support."
"The challenge will significantly increase for him as he essentially enters Pecco’s territory. However, Ducati values champions and, as is well-known, will gravitate towards whoever is victorious."
"They keep saying they support, they support, they support, but currently, he's the one coming out on top. It's going to present a significant challenge for the Ducati team leaders to handle. Usually, Marc comes out ahead in these scenarios."
Hodgson wasn't the sole individual discussing Marquez and Bagnaia; five-time world champion Mick Doohan also shared his thoughts on the matter.
Speaking with TNT Sports, Doohan mentioned, "They both possess strong characters. Their personalities vary, yet their mentalities are quite alike."
"In my view, this represents a victory for Ducati. They'll have the opportunity to significantly advance the bike's development. However, this could pose challenges for the rest of the Ducati team."
"Pecco is demonstrating considerable strength and continues to grow stronger. He's entering the peak of his career, while Marc, although already at his peak, is in the process of recovering from a severe injury and a phase of uncertainty. Nonetheless, both are skilled at navigating their paths solo, which ultimately means Ducati will emerge victorious."
Even though Bagnaia is comfortably established at Ducati with the full support of his team, he is expected to face significant pressure from Marquez.
Doohan thinks the current world champion will struggle to keep Marquez at bay.
"Doohan started off by saying, 'The Ducati squad is proving their ability to compete, so I don't see that becoming a problem for Marc,'"
"He is concentrating on advancing this year with the 23 bike, and then he's eager to switch to the 25 bike in the future."
"Undoubtedly, they currently hold the top position in manufacturing. He is in a favorable position right now.
"Bagnaia must deliver when it counts, and he's increasingly showing his strength. While it won't be a simple task for Marc, Bagnaia will also face his own set of challenges."
