Aragon MotoGP: Binder’s Burnout Struggle and Miller’s Rins Encounter Highlight Thrilling Weekend
Brad Binder: "Once again, I ended up doing a rolling burnout!"
Jack Miller: "Rins managed to get ahead of me."
Brad Binder: "I had a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his most successful MotoGP weekend since the season began in Qatar, finishing in 4th and 6th place at the Aragon race.
This happened even though he spun out in both races, and despite starting from the cleaner part of a messy grid, he still managed to secure seventh place.
Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle section of the race, which turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided five laps from the end.
However, Acosta stayed just beyond grasp.
“I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start, and I managed to do another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!” Binder said with a smile.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final stretch of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't approach them too quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out by the end."
"I put in my utmost effort to overtake Pedro, but the back was completely gone!"
"Aside from that, we took several encouraging strides this weekend. We experimented with adjusting the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a member of the team, had a powerful start, advancing from 15th position on the grid to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian rider faced difficulties with rear tire grip.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins for ninth place on the final lap, he was one of three riders penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tire pressure violations, which pushed him down to 15th position.
"That was quite a lengthy race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions have been changing; it was mostly dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt slicker."
"I gave it my all. Managing the [medium] rear tire was challenging, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final corner."
"I found my groove and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges transitioning from the outer to the central part of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it tough to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to work hard."
Pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins overtook me on the final lap's back straight. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I didn't accelerate well, allowing him to pass me.
"We will return to Misano."
KTM will have a total of five riders this weekend, with test rider Pol Espargaro joining as a wild-card entry.
“Next, we’ll head to Misano, anticipating both the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which should provide us with some valuable insights moving forward,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP event will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who currently ranks fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently holds 15th place and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
