Aprilia’s Bold Move: Poaching Marco Bezzecchi from Ducati and Aiming High for 2025 MotoGP Season
Aprilia acknowledges that parting with "two riders is not optimal," yet maintains a positive outlook.
Massimo Rivola reveals that Aprilia has high hopes for their latest addition, Marco Bezzecchi, following his acquisition from Ducati.
In 2025, Marco Bezzecchi will join forces with Jorge Martin at Aprilia, forming a strong team lineup for the manufacturer based in Noale, after both riders decided to move away from Ducati.
On Monday, Bezzecchi inked a deal with the Italian manufacturer, marking his departure from the VR46 squad to debut as a factory rider in MotoGP.
2024 has turned out to be quite challenging for Bezzecchi after experiencing an exceptional sophomore year in MotoGP during 2023.
Although he's facing challenges adjusting to the GP23 motorcycle, Rivola has high hopes for the Italian rider, who was in the running for the championship for a significant portion of the previous season.
"According to Rivola, he's transitioning from a high-performance motorcycle, but the upside is his genuine interest in joining our team and trying out our bike."
"He recognizes the capability of our bicycle and believes he can exhibit strong performance."
"I believe he's going to perform well. Initially, he might require some time to adjust, but I'm certain he'll quickly pick up speed."
The pairing of Martin and Bezzecchi might compete with Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez at Lenovo Ducati, but it's important to note that Aprilia's team members will be making their debut on the RS-GP.
This may affect their early performance, yet Rivola is staying hopeful, even though he admits that swapping out both factory riders is 'far from perfect'.
Rivola remarked, "It's not perfect to switch out both riders. Normally, keeping the team stable leads to better results, but when you manage to secure two such skilled individuals, you must remain hopeful and acknowledge that you're in contention for the title."
"We possess two of the most exceptional talents from recent seasons and it's unjustifiable not to provide them with the top-performing motorcycle."
