Alpine Sets Sights on Professionalism in Search for Esteban Ocon’s Replacement
Alpine discloses primary quality sought in hunt for Esteban Ocon's successor
Bruno Famin from Alpine has detailed the qualities the team is looking for in their quest to find a replacement for Esteban Ocon.
Alpine is looking for a driver with a high level of "professionalism" to take over for Esteban Ocon in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Following a crash involving his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly during the Monaco Grand Prix, Alpine revealed that Ocon will depart from the team after five years at the conclusion of this season.
Both Alpine and Ocon emphasized that their collision with Gasly, who is anticipated to stay with the Anglo-French team in 2025, did not affect the choice to separate.
During a press conference at the Canadian Grand Prix, Alpine's team leader Bruno Famin outlined the team's main focus as they look for a new replacement.
Although Famin argued that the dynamic between the two drivers isn't crucial, he emphasized the significance of having drivers who conduct themselves professionally.
In an interview with Sky Sports F1 in Montreal, Famin emphasized that the key factor is not the relationship but the level of professionalism. He stated, "What we need are professional drivers."
Collaboration is essential. Working well with a colleague is a crucial aspect of their duties to achieve the best outcomes for the team.
Famin revealed that Alpine's backup driver, Jack Doohan, is being considered for a permanent spot next season. However, he mentioned that the 21-year-old Australian isn't the sole contender for the position.
"Jack is definitely a possibility," Famin stated.
"We are getting him ready, and he has been undergoing tests for an extended period. He has a rigorous testing schedule, which we are satisfied with. We'll observe how he progresses."
"He is certainly a potential option, though not the only one."
Other potential candidates for the open Alpine position are Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu from the Sauber team.
Mick Schumacher, who serves as a reserve driver for Mercedes and competes for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship, is another candidate to potentially replace Ocon.
At this point, the son of renowned seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael is considered an underdog.
Carlos Sainz, Daniel Ricciardo, Kevin Magnussen, and Logan Sargeant have yet to confirm their positions for the upcoming season.
