Alex Rins Faces Uncertain Future After Dutch MotoGP Highside: Injury Details and Impact on Upcoming Races
Alex Rins' Injury from Highside Crash Explained; Uncertainty Surrounds Next Week's Race
Initial injuries reported for Alex Rins following his crash in the Dutch MotoGP
Alex Rins' participation in the Dutch MotoGP came to an abrupt end at Turn 1 due to a severe highside.
The Yamaha motorcyclist managed to leave the scene on foot and initially headed to the track's medical facility.
Initial findings indicate that Rins has sustained a broken bone in his right foot and a significant contusion on his right wrist.
He is heading straight to Madrid for additional medical examinations.
Consequently, his participation in the German MotoGP next weekend is uncertain.
Massimo Meregalli stated that today's race at the TT Assen has been challenging.
"We understood that, given our initial circumstances, it would be challenging to achieve significant advancement."
"Fabio managed to hold his position effectively in the first half of the race, but finishing in 12th place is not enough, and we need to continue improving."
"Alex had a stroke of bad luck with a significant crash at the first corner, particularly after a fairly good start."
The penalty was disproportionate to the offense. He injured his right hand and foot and plans to go back to Madrid to seek advice from his doctor.
"We are fortunate that the injury isn't more severe, though surgery will probably still be necessary. We will provide another update once we have additional details."
Rins had a rough day, beginning with the announcement that he will probably be staying with Yamaha longer than expected.
Rins' present agreement is set to end this year, but both he and Yamaha's managing director, Lin Jarvis, revealed to Sky Italia that they are heavily involved in discussions for a fresh contract.
This weekend, Yamaha is feeling hopeful again following the announcement that Pramac has been added as a satellite team.
By retaining Rins in their main team with Quartararo for the upcoming year, Yamaha can concentrate on allocating their two new motorcycles.
Fellow racer Fabio Quartararo ended the Dutch MotoGP in the same position he began, securing 12th place.
Quartararo wraps up the weekend in 12th position in the MotoGP rankings, while Rins finishes in 20th place.
