Alex Marquez’s Career Revival and Future Ambitions with Gresini MotoGP: A Two-Year Commitment and the Quest for the Fastest Team-Mate
Alex Marquez Remains Silent on 2025 Team-mate and Bike | "Gresini Revived My Career"
Alex Marquez: "I prefer having the quickest rider as my team-mate."
While Marc, the older Marquez sibling, is set to depart from Gresini, Alex Marquez has just signed a new contract to stay with the Italian team for his third and fourth seasons with the satellite Ducati squad.
"I am thrilled to extend my contract," Alex expressed just before this weekend's German MotoGP.
"I had a strategy in mind because this team rescued my MotoGP career two years back. I feel truly at ease with them, deeply value the support, and have an excellent rapport with Nadia [the team owner] and the entire team."
In 2020, at the age of 28, the Moto2 champion transitioned to MotoGP, joining his brother Marc at the Repsol Honda factory team. During that season, he secured two podium finishes following Marc's arm injuries.
In 2021, Alex made room for Pol Espargaro and transferred to LCR. He faced challenges, finishing 16th and 17th in the world championship standings. However, last season, he revitalized his career with a move to Gresini, which also set the stage for Marc.
In his first year riding a Desmosedici, Alex celebrated two MotoGP podium finishes, a Sprint race victory, and ended up ninth overall. This season, on the year-old GP23, his highest achievement so far is a fourth place, placing him tenth in the standings.
"We are aware of our goals. This year has been a bit more challenging for us. However, I believe that with minor adjustments and continued effort, we will achieve the desired outcomes," he stated.
Although the renewal of the #73 was almost a given, it's uncertain who will take his brother's place and if Gresini will receive the 2025 factory bikes from Pramac.
Alex mentioned that the team would be better suited to address questions about the bike. Regarding his team-mate, he noted that he had heard numerous names being mentioned.
"I won’t name anyone specifically. I prefer the fastest rider as my teammate, as it motivates the other rider to push harder and perform better."
"Regardless of who arrives, it won't change much for me. I have a goal and an objective, and I am committed to achieving it."
Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, both of whom have secured victories in MotoGP races, have been mentioned as potential candidates for the Gresini team position.
At the same time, Marquez acknowledged that having a two-year contract provides him with a feeling of stability.
"Whether I have a contract or not, my motivation remains unchanged. However, having a two-year contract provides a sense of security and allows me to work effectively right from the start."
"If you have to take risks and push boundaries, you are capable of doing so."
