Alex Marquez States, "I Desire the Quickest Rider as My Teammate"
While Marc is set to depart from Gresini, his younger sibling Alex Marquez has just signed a contract extension, ensuring his stay with the Italian team for a third and fourth year with the satellite Ducati outfit.
"Renewing my contract fills me with joy," Alex expressed on the night before the German MotoGP this weekend.
"I conceived a specific strategy because they were instrumental in rescuing my MotoGP career two years back. I'm genuinely at ease with this team, deeply value it, and maintain an excellent rapport with Nadia [team owner] and the rest of the members."
At the age of 28, after clinching the Moto2 championship, he transitioned to MotoGP, joining the Repsol Honda factory team with his brother Marc in 2020. During this period, he managed to secure two podium finishes, stepping up in the wake of his brother's arm injuries.
In 2021, Alex made room for Pol Espargaro and transitioned to LCR, where he faced challenges, finishing 16th and 17th in the world championship standings. However, his career experienced a revival, and he also set the stage for Marc's success, after moving to Gresini the following season.
In his inaugural season with a Desmosedici, Alex has not only secured two MotoGP podium finishes and a Sprint victory but also claimed the ninth spot in the overall rankings. This season, riding the previous year's GP23 model, his highest achievement has been a fourth-place finish, positioning him tenth in the championship standings.
"He acknowledged the team's awareness of their goal. Despite facing more challenges this year, he believes that through minor adjustments and persistent effort, success will eventually come," he stated.
The extension of contract #73 was largely anticipated, yet who will take over for his sibling and if Gresini will receive any of the 2025 'Pramac' factory motorcycles remains uncertain.
"Regarding the motorcycle, the team is more qualified to discuss that than I am. As for my teammate, I've already heard numerous names," Alex mentioned.
"I won't reveal any names. The quickest one is whom I prefer as a teammate. It motivates the other rider to exert more effort and to be competitive.
"For me, the outcome won't be significantly different, regardless of who arrives. I have a target, a purpose, and I'm committed to achieving it through my own efforts."
Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira, both recognized victors in MotoGP races, have been associated with the opportunity at the Gresini team.
In the meantime, Marquez acknowledged that a contract spanning two years offers him a feeling of stability.
"My drive remains unchanged, whether I have a contract or not. However, having that assurance of a two-year deal provides me with a sense of security and allows me to start off on the right foot."
"Therefore, if taking a chance is necessary, if pushing boundaries is required, you have the capability to do so."
