Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations Following Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez denies allegations: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez firmly denies claims that he 'intentionally' made contact with Francesco Bagnaia, asserting: 'It's not in my nature and it's not part of the ethos of this sport'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across 'certain comments' following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The duo got caught in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for the third spot, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because neither rider was found to be mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which implied that the Gresini racer did not attempt to steer clear and instead maintained his speed.
"Upon entering the next turn, which was turn 13, I heard the sound of his engine accelerating. He was clearly opening the throttle, indicating that he was aiming for this contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I wanted to examine that information… He kept the throttle at 60 percent open and 40 percent closed right up until the crash happened. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another racer and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior is not part of who I am, nor is it part of the principles of this sport."
"The key point for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
“It's time for me to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be in peak condition for Misano.”
Marquez and Bagnaia escaped major harm and are set to return to racing at Misano this weekend.
The Aragon race saw Alex's teammate and sibling, Marc Marquez, take the victory. However, Jorge Martin secured second place, allowing him to extend his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
