Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision with Francesco Bagnaia: ‘It’s Not in My DNA or in the DNA of This Sport
Alex Marquez addresses the situation: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' made contact with Francesco Bagnaia, asserting: 'It goes against my nature and the nature of this sport.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain comments following his collision with Francesco Bagnaia during Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race.
The duo experienced a serious crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was necessary because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears discontented with Bagnaia's remarks implying that the Gresini racer maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Upon entering the next turn, which was turn 13, I heard his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming for this contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I wanted to examine the data… He was maintaining 60 percent throttle, with only 40 percent closed, up until the point of the crash. This behavior is quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
“Having reviewed several statements, I want to clarify the following:
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It's not something I would ever do, and it's not a part of the ethos of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to take a break and rejuvenate my body so I can be fully ready for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without severe injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, who is Alex Marquez's brother and teammate, secured victory in the Aragon race. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has allowed him to extend his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
