Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Collision Claims After Aragon MotoGP Incident with Bagnaia
Alex Marquez addresses the accusations: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider"
Alex Marquez denies claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating, 'It's not in my nature, nor is it in the nature of this sport.'
Alex Marquez has issued a statement after seeing some comments following his incident with Francesco Bagnaia during the Aragon MotoGP on Sunday.
The two riders were caught in a serious crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for third position, following Marquez's wide run.
According to the FIM Stewards, no additional measures were required because they concluded that neither of the riders was mainly at fault.
Nonetheless, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider had maintained throttle rather than steering clear of a collision.
"As I went into the next corner, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating. It was clear he was aiming for this move," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
"I reviewed the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This behavior is quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared an update on social media:
"Upon reviewing several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I could never intentionally collide with another competitor, and I refuse to be accused of doing so. Such behavior goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The key takeaway for me is the discussion I had with Pecco yesterday, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"It’s now time for me to relax and rejuvenate my body so I can be in top shape for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, secured victory in the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his advantage over Bagnaia to 23 points.
