Alex Marquez Defends Integrity Following Aragon MotoGP Clash: ‘Deliberate Crash Accusations Unfounded’
Alex Marquez's Response: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez firmly denies allegations that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'Such actions are not part of my nature, nor are they part of the ethos of this sport.'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across 'certain remarks' following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The duo were caught in a serious collision as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini racer for a podium spot, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was required because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears to be displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"When I got into the next turn, which was turn 13, I could hear his engine revving up. He was accelerating. He was aiming to make contact," Bagnaia explained to MotoGP.com.
“I examined the data… He maintained 60 percent throttle and 40 percent open until the moment he crashed. This behavior seems very unusual for a rider, in my opinion.”
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed a number of statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to accept any accusations of doing so. Such behavior goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday was the most important thing for me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"Now it's time to take a break and rejuvenate myself so I can be fully prepared for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to compete again at Misano this weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, secured victory in the Aragon race, while Jorge Martin's second-place finish has extended his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
