Alex Marquez Defends Integrity After Aragon MotoGP Crash: ‘Deliberate Contact Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez responded: "I would never intentionally collide with another rider."
Alex Marquez denied any accusations that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: "It's not in my nature, nor is it a part of this sport's nature."
In light of recent comments following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia last Sunday, Alex Marquez has issued a response.
The duo experienced a severe crash when Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini rider for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that 'no further action' was necessary because 'neither rider was found to be mainly at fault'.
However, Marquez appears to be displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider did not attempt to steer clear of a collision and instead kept accelerating.
Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com that the moment he went into the next corner, he could hear the other rider accelerating. It was clear that the other rider was trying to make contact.
"I examined the data… He maintained a throttle position of 60 percent open and 40 percent closed up until the moment of the crash. This behavior seems quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several comments, I want to clarify the following points:"
“I would never intentionally collide with another racer, and I refuse to be accused of such behavior. It goes against my principles and the very essence of this sport.”
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday was crucial, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is now resolved."
"Now I need to take some time to relax and heal so I can be fully prepared for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape without major injuries and are set to race at Misano this weekend.
Alex's teammate and brother, Marc Marquez, claimed victory at the Aragon race. However, Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
