Alex Marquez Defends His Integrity After Aragon MotoGP Crash: ‘Deliberate Contact Not in My DNA
Alex Marquez addresses the allegations: “I would never intentionally collide with another rider”
Alex Marquez dismisses any claims that he 'intentionally' collided with Francesco Bagnaia, stating: 'Such actions are not part of my character, nor are they part of this sport's ethos'
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across ‘some statements’ following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The two riders collided in a major accident as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for the third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary because neither rider was found to be mainly at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini rider maintained acceleration instead of steering clear of a collision.
"Right when I went into the next corner, I could hear his engine accelerating. He was revving up. It was clear he was aiming to make contact," Bagnaia said to MotoGP.com.
"I was curious about the data… He kept the throttle open at 60 percent and 40 percent until the moment he crashed. This seems unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
On Monday, Marquez shared a post on social media:
"Having reviewed several statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
“I would never intentionally collide with another cyclist, and I refuse to accept any accusations of doing so. Such behavior is not in my nature, nor is it a part of the spirit of this sport.
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and as far as I'm concerned, the matter is resolved."
"At this point, I need to take a break and rejuvenate so I can be fully prepared for Misano."
Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
Marc Marquez, Alex's brother and teammate, clinched victory in the Aragon race. Jorge Martin secured second place, extending his lead over Bagnaia to 23 points.
