Aleix Espargaro Withdraws from German MotoGP Due to Hand Injury
Aleix Espargaro pulls out of the German MotoGP
Aleix Espargaro will not continue participating in the German MotoGP event.
After completing only three laps during the initial practice session at the Sachsenring on Friday morning, Aleix Espargaro has decided to pull out from the rest of the German MotoGP weekend.
The Aprilia rider, who broke the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand during a high-speed crash in last Saturday's Sprint race, was optimistic that the track's predominance of left-hand turns (with only three right-hand turns) would help keep the pain under control this weekend.
However, the 2025 HRC test rider, who cut off his 'bad luck' blonde hair following his crash at Assen, was observed having difficulty putting on an altered glove before the session.
Dr. Charte was observed signaling that it was finished while conversing with a downcast Espargaro, who had just returned to the pits following a few sluggish laps. Aprilia subsequently announced that rider number 41 would not continue participating in the weekend's events.
Espargaro, who is presently ranked ninth in the world championship standings, has a deadline of the British MotoGP at Silverstone, which takes place from August 2-4, to make a full recovery
As Aprilia's test rider Lorenzo Savadori is sidelined due to an injury sustained at Assen, Maverick Vinales will be the sole rider for the team this weekend.
