Aleix Espargaro Escapes Serious Injury in High-Speed Dutch MotoGP Crash, Battles Pain Ahead of Qualifying
Aleix Espargaro's Status Following Dutch MotoGP Practice Incident
Aleix Espargaro avoids major injuries in a severe crash during Friday's practice session at Assen, though he experiences significant discomfort in his lower back and neck.
Aleix Espargaro experienced a significant crash towards the conclusion of Friday's practice session for the Dutch MotoGP at Assen.
The Aprilia racer was thrown off his RS-GP bike at the Geert Timmer chicane, hitting the ground hard on his lower back.
The Spaniard, who is set to retire at the conclusion of this season, was observed walking with clear discomfort before being carried off on a stretcher.
The initial report from his team stated, “Preliminary examinations at the medical center indicate that no fractures were found following the accident.”
A later update indicated that Espargaro "did not experience any major injuries."
"He is experiencing minor pain from the bruise at the base of his back, which is evident from how he fell."
Due to Espargaro being unable to fulfill his media responsibilities because of the accident, Aprilia shared the following statement from the 34-year-old:
"I suffered a fall towards the conclusion of the practice session. It's unfortunate because everything had been going smoothly up until then."
"I felt a sense of competition while riding the bike. This track is quite challenging, with high speeds and increasing aerodynamic forces adding more weight to the front each year."
"In general, I’m content despite experiencing significant discomfort in my lower back and neck."
"Things will be tougher tomorrow, but they're not as terrible as they might have been."
In practice, Espargaro was the fourth quickest when he had an accident that caused the yellow flags to be waved, resulting in his direct qualification for Q2 on Saturday.
