**”Adrian Newey Joins Aston Martin: A Power Move to Attract Top Drivers Amid Verstappen Rumours”**
Aston Martin is “more appealing” thanks to Adrian Newey as Max Verstappen speculation swirls
“We are more appealing to drivers…”
Mike Krack stated that Adrian Newey joining the Aston Martin Formula 1 team enhances its appeal to drivers.
On Tuesday, Aston revealed that it has secured a contract with renowned designer Newey for 2025, ahead of this weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The agreement is reportedly valued at up to £30 million annually.
This development occurs as Formula 1 prepares for a fresh set of rules in 2026. Newey played a crucial role in enabling Red Bull to quickly adapt to the latest car models introduced in 2022.
As Aston Martin aims to reestablish itself among the leading teams after falling behind in 2024, they view Newey's recruitment as a significant move. This is seen as the first step in attracting a high-profile driver in the future.
During a Thursday event in Baku, team leader Krack suggested that the possibility of three-time world champion Max Verstappen joining their team in the future remains open, stating that "the door is always open."
When queried by Sky F1 on Friday about whether Newey might serve as a draw for a driver like Verstappen, Krack responded: “Firstly, I believe that drivers are not an issue for us.
"Our primary objective as a team is to address the issues with our underperforming car."
"While confidence can be beneficial, it doesn't happen on its own."
“Simply signing someone doesn’t mean everything is perfect.”
"You need to put in a lot of effort, but you must also ensure the structure is effective. Start by optimizing roles and responsibilities, and then work diligently like any other team."
"We might succeed if we prepare properly. First, we need to ensure tasks are assigned correctly and everyone is motivated to participate."
"We expect many young individuals to join us now, motivated by someone like Adrian."
"As a team, we have become more appealing overall. We're now more attractive to partners, drivers, and engineers. It's great."
Aston Martin is expected to retain its current drivers until at least 2026. Fernando Alonso has a contract that lasts until that year, and Lance Stroll, whose father Lawrence Stroll owns the team, has an agreement that extends through 2025 and possibly longer.
