Adrian Newey Bids Farewell to Red Bull, Set to Join Aston Martin in 2025
Formula 1 design expert Adrian Newey will stop going to Red Bull races, according to Lewis Larkam's report from Baku.
According to Crash.net, Adrian Newey has made his last appearance at a Formula 1 race in an official technical role for Red Bull.
The renowned designer, often hailed as the best in Formula 1 history, is set to depart from Red Bull after almost 20 years. He will transition to Aston Martin in March 2025 when his contract concludes.
After it was announced in May that Newey would be leaving Red Bull, he has been present at the races in Miami, Monaco, and Silverstone.
According to information obtained by Crash.net, the initial intention was for Newey to keep participating in more Red Bull events in a technical role throughout the rest of the season. However, it appears this has been revised. The 65-year-old Briton will now concentrate on the RB17 hypercar project.
Although Adrian Newey remains contracted with Red Bull, he attended Aston Martin's major press conference last Tuesday at their advanced Silverstone facility to announce his decision to join them.
Reliable sources indicate that Red Bull was unaware of Newey’s intention to be present at Aston Martin's unveiling event.
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, suggested dissatisfaction during his discussion with the media, including Crash.net, on Friday in Baku.
"It was clearly a significant announcement from Aston, and knowing Adrian, he usually follows his own path. So, it was undoubtedly an important event for the team," Horner remarked.
"They decided to celebrate it a bit early, even though he hasn't completed his contract with Red Bull Racing yet, but it was clearly a significant moment for the team."
Horner expressed his gratitude for Newey’s impact at Red Bull and extended his best wishes for Newey’s upcoming transition.
"He mentioned that it wasn't very surprising. It had been increasingly evident that he would choose that path instead of retiring or joining a different team."
“It’s clear that his departure next year will bring new challenges for him, and we’ll be sad to see him go. However, we extend our best wishes for his future endeavors. We will also cherish the nearly 20 years we shared, remembering both the highs and lows with great affection.”
"Adrian possesses a high level of creativity. He stands out from typical designers. To my knowledge, he's the sole individual in Formula 1 who continues to use a drawing board for his work."
“There will naturally be a period of adjustment as everyone learns about one another's working styles and methods. However, he stands out in many ways. Aston plans to leverage his extensive experience.”
