A Decade On: Nico Hulkenberg Awaits Ferrari Decision Explanation Amidst New Audi Venture
A decade on, an F1 driver remains in the dark about being overlooked by Ferrari
Is clarity on a ten-year-old driving choice still possible?
Over ten years later, Nico Hulkenberg has yet to receive an explanation for why Ferrari passed him over.
The present driver for Haas, who has committed to joining Audi's team starting next year, lost a golden chance to race for Ferrari back in 2014.
In a move that caught the attention of many, Kimi Raikkonen came back to Ferrari, teaming up with Fernando Alonso in what promised to be an exhilarating pairing.
Key members of Ferrari's leadership, including Stefano Domenicali, who currently serves as the CEO of F1, were instrumental in the decision to re-sign Raikkonen instead of selecting Hulkenberg.
Sued Deutsche inquired if Hulkenberg had ever questioned Domenicali about his rationale.
"He asserted it hadn't happened so far."
"He continues to insist, 'Wait a bit longer before coming.'"
Is Hulkenberg destined to find the answers he seeks?
"I'm unsure, I can't predict the future," he stated.
Hulkenberg once stated that his above-average height was a factor in missing out on a move to a top-tier Formula 1 team.
"In a past conversation with Motorsport, the driver, who stands at 6 feet, shared that they've never received feedback from [teams] stating, 'Apologies, but we rejected you due to your height."
Most likely, they wouldn't directly inform me.
"However, I'm quite convinced that it has indeed affected the chance and instances of advancing to a premier vehicle."
"Challenges with packaging, limited room, and increased heft, which is contrary to the norms in this industry."
At 37, seasoned driver Hulkenberg has secured an immensely thrilling opportunity.
Despite Sauber maintaining their name into the next season, they face significant challenges in their performance. However, the support they are set to receive from Audi turns their endeavor into one worth watching.
