Tesla Initiates Recall of Over 27K Cybertrucks Due to Safety Concerns with Rearview Camera Delay
Tesla issues a recall for 27,185 of its Cybertruck vehicles over a lag in the rearview camera display.
Once more, the Tesla Cybertruck is facing a recall.
The NHTSA has issued a recall notice for the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck on September 26, affecting 27,185 vehicles. The recall is due to a problem with the rearview cameras that causes a delay in the display of the image.
The alert issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that there's a lag in the feed from the backup camera to the interior screen. This lag breaches U.S. safety regulations as it poses a risk to safety.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified the problem as the system failing to fully shut down before receiving a command to restart. When an operator shifts the electric truck into reverse and starts to reverse before the system has fully shut down and restarted, the correct image may not display within the required two seconds after engaging the reverse gear. This issue is a violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 111, specifically section S6.23.
Vehicles affected by the problem might fail to show the live feed from the backup camera for a delay ranging from six to eight seconds when the vehicle is reversing, resulting in a blank screen during this time.
Vehicles manufactured from November 13th of last year until September 14th of this year, which utilize or utilized a particular software algorithm for their low-voltage mechanisms, are impacted.
Tesla identified a problem on September 12 and conducted an internal evaluation that was completed by September 19. The car manufacturer recognized there was a noncompliance matter and decided to initiate a recall. As of September 25, Tesla has received 45 warranty claims and reports from customers about this problem, but there have been no reports of accidents or injuries.
Starting on September 19, Tesla initiated a wireless software update to fix the problem, guaranteeing that the rearview camera's display operates correctly with a response time of two seconds.
Tesla is set to send out recall letters to Cybertruck owners impacted by the issue soon after September 30th.
This edition signifies the fifth instance in which the Cybertruck has been summoned back for corrections, despite being available for purchase for under twelve months. The reasons for recall have varied, including defective wiper motors, improperly secured decorative elements, and accelerator pedals that have become stuck.
