Zak Brown Closes Door on Adrian Newey’s Return to McLaren Amidst F1 Design Guru’s Departure Rumors
Zak Brown has definitively stated that Adrian Newey will not be making a comeback to McLaren.
McLaren's chief, Zak Brown, has dismissed the possibility of making an extraordinary move for Red Bull F1's design expert, Adrian Newey.
Following the announcement of his exit from Red Bull prior to this year's Miami Grand Prix, Newey has been associated with several teams.
According to sources, Newey is said to have engaged in discussions with both Aston Martin and Ferrari, and there's been speculation about a potential comeback to McLaren, driven by his strong relationship with Brown.
The Formula 1 designer is set to depart from Red Bull in the early months of 2025, and it's still uncertain which team he will join next.
During a discussion with the BBC, Brown made it clear that Newey is not set to make a comeback to Woking in 2025.
"Adrian won't be joining us," Brown stated. "I'm really content with our current team setup. Adrian, who is a close friend and immensely talented with an unparalleled track record, won't be signed."
"Given the resources we currently have at our disposal, I am extremely satisfied. We are equipped to complete the task."
"I'm content with our current racing team, and we're aiming to secure the world championship with the team we have right now."
Brown's confidence in his existing design crew is expected, considering McLaren's impressive revival over the past year and a half.
McLaren has progressed from trailing behind to emerging as the top contenders for this year’s team championship.
Anticipating the upcoming title fight, Brown remarked, “I believe it's going to be an intense battle. I see it being a tough competition among the four teams [Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, and Ferrari].”
"Prepare for thrilling clashes. Eight competitors capable of dominating virtually any circuit are set to deliver an exhilarating spectacle."
