Thrills, Penalties, and Off-Track Antics: Unforgettable Moments from the F1 Qatar Grand Prix
Unexpected events outside the race attract attention at the F1 Qatar Grand Prix
A summary of what you may have overlooked in Qatar, brought to you by Stewart Bell
This year's event in Qatar was full of excitement, even though the drivers' championship had already been decided. The pyramid kerbs were adjusted, and the cooler temperatures were notable. The race featured several multi-car collisions, two tire blowouts, three safety car deployments, and a host of penalties.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull clinched his fourth championship title by finishing fifth in Las Vegas. On race day, he avoided any penalties and went on to achieve his second consecutive victory at Lusail, marking his ninth win of 2024 and the 63rd of his career overall.

However, Lando Norris, his competitor, didn't have the same fortune in Qatar, even though he engaged in an intense contest with the Dutch driver for over half of the race.
The McLaren racer's hopes were dashed when he overlooked the double waved yellow flags on the main pit straight. As a result, he received a harsh 10-second stop-and-go penalty along with three penalty points. This left him finishing in 10th place at the end of the race, with the fastest lap earning him a bonus point as his only consolation.
In what appeared to be a possible violation identified by the top-ranking Dutch driver, who happens to be a friend of Norris, the situation intensified. This came after the Dutchman had already stirred things up earlier in the weekend by suggesting that, had he been behind the wheel of the British driver’s McLaren MCL38, he might have secured the championship before reaching Las Vegas.
After the race, Verstappen inquired whether the driver had slowed down. He remarked, "It's reasonable to question this, especially when you have complied by reducing speed. That's the consequence you face. The rules regarding yellow flags are pretty strict. I've experienced this firsthand with penalties before, and that's just how it goes."
Carlos Sainz and George Russell make a sponsor connection in Qatar
Away from the racing circuit, events took an unexpected turn when tennis icon Novak Djokovic was announced as the Global Brand Ambassador and Wellness Advisor for Qatar Airways, a key Formula 1 sponsor. Rather than playing tennis with some of the drivers, Djokovic found himself at the well-known Doha salon, HD Cutz. There, while getting a haircut, he engaged in a conversation about F1.
"This is like the Formula One of haircuts," remarked the Joker. "I can't see precisely what he's doing, but I completely trust him."
Novak Djokovic is quite familiar with Formula 1 and its racers. He crossed paths with Carlos Sainz from Ferrari at the Monte Carlo Masters in April. Additionally, he often encounters Mercedes' George Russell during his regular visits to a nearby gym.
He expressed his enthusiasm for Formula One, stating that he has been an avid supporter since childhood. Michael Schumacher was his hero in the sport, and he enjoyed watching him race. Since then, he has kept up with all the individuals who have contributed to making Formula One popular around the world.
The Joker, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles in men's singles, is eager to improve his skills alongside Lewis Hamilton, another champion based in Monaco.
In a recent encounter, Djokovic recounted their initial meeting, during which they discussed a variety of topics. Djokovic extended an invitation for a brief tennis lesson, which the individual seemed interested in accepting. The person admitted that he wanted to improve his tennis skills and expressed dissatisfaction with his current level. Djokovic believes he can assist him in enhancing his game.
Lewis Hamilton Faces Challenges at Qatar Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton experienced significant difficulties at the Qatar Grand Prix. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion admitted, "I am certainly not quick anymore," following his seventh-place qualification for Saturday's Sprint. On Sunday, he was penalized twice during the race: initially receiving a 5-second penalty for a false start, followed by a drive-through penalty for exceeding the 80 km/h speed limit in the pit lane by 12.5 km/h. Ultimately, the British driver ended the race in 12th place.
However, Hamilton entered the weekend with a grin, fresh from completing astronaut flight training with the Polaris program in the United States.
As part of a program organized by Mercedes sponsor IWC Shaffhausen, the British individual geared up and was ready for a one-hour flight aboard the L-39 Albatros jet.
During a series of standard maneuvers, Hamilton experienced a peak force of 7.5G, which surpasses the gravitational forces astronauts endure during their launch into space. These maneuvers involved both speeding up and slowing down to feel lateral g-forces.
"It's like you're gliding through the clouds," he remarked. "It's quite a distinct experience. We descended, swooping near the runway, which was a bit wild because of how close we got. Then, we pulled back on the stick to ascend again – that was amazing!"
Before taking to the skies, Hamilton received a thorough briefing and examination of the aircraft. However, the instructor was quickly amazed by the racing legend's abilities as soon as they were in the cockpit.
"We were deeply engaged in aerobatics, conducting tests to assess acceleration and deceleration," stated John "Slick" Baum, who serves as the Philanthropy Director and Instructor Pilot for the Polaris Program.
Naturally, we aimed to experience some G-forces, beginning with four, then progressing to five and six, ultimately reaching seven and a half Gs today. The pilot demonstrated exceptional skill and control, and I was truly amazed by his flying prowess.

Behind the Pit Wall: Mario Andretti Opens Up About Michael’s F1 Exit and Cadillac’s Future
Mario Andretti Expresses Doubts Over Personal Factors in Michael Andretti's F1 Project Setback
Mario Andretti Shares His Thoughts on His Son's Departure from Upcoming F1 Endeavor
Michael Andretti will not join the 11th Formula 1 team; however, his father, Mario, will be involved.
Former Formula 1 champion Mario has been appointed to the board of directors for the Cadillac team, which is supported by General Motors and has received approval to join the grid starting in 2026.

Michael, initially aiming to establish a team under the Andretti banner, resigned from his leadership position in the initiative prior to receiving approval for the project.
Mario shared with Motorsport details about his son's departure, saying, "A lot of things were happening, and eventually it occurred. While it might have seemed like that was the main reason, it actually wasn't."
"In some way, he could have distanced himself a bit more from their daily affairs, ensuring that as we move ahead, we maintain our momentum without any disruptions."
Michael Andretti received the green light from the FIA, yet the current ten teams did not extend a warm welcome to him
Since then, those teams have agreed to the Cadillac offer without Michael being part of it.
"There appeared to be some personal matters involved that, on a personal level, I still don't comprehend," his father remarked.
"It appeared that everything ultimately hinged on that point."
Mario informed the Indy Star that even though it doesn't carry the Andretti team name, they're satisfied because they achieved their main goal.
"We are assembling a genuine American team for the grid, and Michael deserves significant recognition for his contribution to this effort."
General Motors has been given an opportunity to join Formula 1, and they plan to make their entrance with the Cadillac brand.
While they plan to join in 2026, they initially require an engine supplier. Ferrari seems to be in a favorable position to produce their engines.
The fresh initiative has promised to establish itself as an engine producer and a complete works team by the year 2030.
They will become part of Haas as the sole Formula 1 teams located in the United States.
For ten years, James worked as a sports reporter at Sky Sports, where he covered a wide range of topics including American sports, soccer, and Formula 1 racing.

Yuki Tsunoda’s ‘Beaver’ Blunder: A Comical Misunderstanding Amidst Qatar F1 Chaos
Yuki Tsunoda's humorous radio mix-up with the word "beaver"
In Qatar, Lewis Larkam reports that Yuki Tsunoda mistakenly believed there was a warning about a "beaver".
During the F1 Qatar Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda misunderstood an RB team message, believing they were alerting him to a "beaver."
The Japanese driver shared that he was puzzled by a radio communication he misunderstood, thinking his team was telling him that a beaver was on the track.

Red Bull was cautioning Tsunoda regarding a dislodged mirror that had come off Alex Albon's Williams car during the tumultuous race at the Lusail International Circuit on Sunday.
Sauber's Valtteri Bottas collided with the mirror, leading it to break and scatter fragments along the pit straight.
Carlos Sainz from Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes experienced tire punctures just before the Safety Car was brought onto the track.
When questioned about whether he had noticed the mirror, Tsunoda responded, "Did you say mirror? I thought I heard beaver."
"My engineers reported spotting a beaver. However, I wondered why a beaver would be in the Middle East and questioned how it could be possible for a beaver to be there."
"However, it's possible that global warming could unexpectedly trigger a host of intriguing phenomena on our planet."
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull, humorously remarked, "that's quite a shift," when informed about Tsunoda's mix-up over the radio.
Tsunoda stated that certain drivers ignored the yellow flags that were displayed following the incident where the mirror dropped onto the track.
Lando Norris from McLaren received a penalty requiring him to stop for 10 seconds because he did not reduce his speed for yellow flags. This penalty demoted him from second place to tenth.
After securing 13th place in Qatar, Tsunoda anticipates that the concern will be discussed during the drivers' meeting at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
"There were double yellow lines, but some cars behind us didn't adhere to them," he mentioned.
"We need to address this in the upcoming drivers' meeting because some drivers follow the rules while others don't, which is quite unjust."
RB faced a challenging weekend in Qatar, falling further behind Alpine and Haas in the race for sixth position in the constructors' championship.
The Faenza team is currently in eighth place with 46 points. They trail Haas by eight points and are 13 points behind Alpine as they prepare for the final race in Abu Dhabi next weekend.

Mercedes Denies Hamilton’s ‘Park the Car’ Plea to Avoid Penalty Carryover in F1 Qatar Grand Prix
Mercedes clarifies the refusal of Lewis Hamilton's request to withdraw his car from the Qatar race.
Mercedes provided an explanation for turning down Lewis Hamilton's request to withdraw his car from the Qatar Grand Prix in Formula 1.
The seven-time world champion's struggles persisted in Qatar, where he ended the second-to-last race of the season in 12th place, missing out on scoring points. His performance was hampered by two penalties and a punctured tire.

Hamilton received a five-second penalty due to a false start, and was subsequently penalized with a drive-through penalty for exceeding the speed limit in the pitlane.
In a disappointing performance, Hamilton was overheard on the team radio requesting Mercedes to "retire his car," a suggestion that race engineer Peter 'Bono' Bonnington turned down.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff explained that the decision was made to ensure his penalty would not affect the upcoming season finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Following Sunday's race in Qatar, Wolff expressed to the press, including reporters from Crash.net, that the race was not up to par.
"In my opinion, many found the car challenging to operate. It simply didn't steer as much as needed."
"When the traction takes hold, there's significant understeer, which negatively impacts both of them."
The situation reached a stage where the initial struggles and the speeding penalty in the pit lane made it seem nearly pointless to keep going.
"If you decide to park the car, you'll take a five-second penalty with you to Abu Dhabi."
Hamilton's final race with Mercedes will be in Abu Dhabi, concluding a 12-year journey with the team before he makes a highly anticipated move to Ferrari.
Wolff emphasized that the upcoming weekend will serve as a "celebration" for both Hamilton and the Mercedes team.
"To begin with, Wolff mentioned that he and Lewis have had an incredible partnership lasting two decades."
"We've secured eight Constructors' Championships and six Drivers' titles with his involvement, and he has won around 80 races. That's the main impression."
"When I have conversations with Lewis, it's a matter that we both value greatly."
"In these recent races, and possibly throughout the entire season, the performances over the past week have definitely not met our expectations."
"On its most challenging days, that car is a real struggle to handle, just as it was today. Once the tires gain traction, it simply refuses to steer. We still have one more race ahead of us."
"We are committed to doing our best, and we will honor the collaboration and bond we shared. The disappointment of these few races will soon fade, despite the current pain."

FIA’s Internal Shake-Up Sparks ‘Reality Show’ Jibes from Mercedes Boss Toto Wolff Amidst F1 Drama
Toto Wolff ridicules the FIA for recent "reality show" antics
Toto Wolff suggests that the FIA might as well have its own "reality show" given the recent controversies.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff suggests that the recent controversies involving Formula 1's governing body could be enough material for the FIA to create its own "reality show."
In the days leading up to last weekend's Qatar Grand Prix, attention was largely focused on unexpected changes within the FIA. Janette Tan, who was slated to become the F2 race director, was dismissed just before assuming the role. Additionally, Tim Mayer, a veteran steward, was also let go.

A few weeks ago, Niels Wittich, the F1 race director, was unexpectedly dismissed with only three races left in the season. Rui Marques, who previously managed F2 and F3, was promoted to handle F1. However, with Tan's sudden departure, Marques found himself with additional responsibilities during the Qatar event.
When questioned about the ongoing drama within the FIA, Wolff shared with reporters, including those from Crash.net, that the situation could be seen in a positive light, suggesting it might be entertaining enough to warrant its own reality show.
"All of our stakeholders should remember that it's crucial to safeguard the integrity of this cherished sport. We must do so with responsibility, accountability, and transparency, because right now, it's not being perceived that way."
"I am unable to examine the workings of the organization. I recognize the efforts we, as teams, are making to maintain cohesion. However, it's encouraging to see the drivers coming together for this larger cause, as they have demonstrated."
"Teams have a clear grasp of our standards for what is considered right or wrong. Therefore, everyone should reflect on their actions and ask themselves, 'Am I giving my best to this sport, or not?'"
FIA's president has the authority to dismiss staff at will. Meanwhile, GPDA director George Russell has urged the FIA to be more transparent in Qatar, emphasizing that the drivers are keen to understand "who will be let go next."
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem strongly responded to the drivers, asserting that his management of the sport is "not their concern."
Wolff expressed his worries about how the chaos might harm Formula 1's reputation, but he conceded that Ben Sulayem has the authority to make decisions as he wishes.
Wolff commented, “Ben Sulayem has the authority to dismiss anyone because it’s his organization and he holds the position of president. No one else is involved in that decision.”
"The key concern for drivers and everyone involved is whether these changes enhance the decision-making process. Are the regulations improved? Is the sport benefiting from these adjustments in the organization and personnel?"
"If the response to everything is affirmative, then this becomes an internal issue that he needs to manage."
"Clearly, the current news and the possible negative impact on reputation are detrimental to everyone involved."
"In my opinion, everyone involved in this sport—whether it’s the media, the FIA, the drivers, the teams, Liberty Media, or Stefano Domenicali at the helm—needs to prioritize rational thinking. Especially now, when there's a lot of division and conflict, it’s crucial that reason prevails. However, I don’t see that happening right now."

Red Bull’s Dilemma: Helmut Marko Dismisses Bottas and Tsunoda as Perez’s Replacement
"Sergio Perez's potential replacement rumors dismissed: 'Helmut Marko doesn't have a high opinion of him!'"
It has been reported that a potential successor for Sergio Perez at Red Bull has been dismissed, as the team's management apparently does not hold him in high regard.
Following the F1 Qatar Grand Prix, some observers proposed that Valtteri Bottas might be the solution to Red Bull's challenges.

Valtteri Bottas is nearing the end of his current contract, which means he will vacate his position at Sauber and is unlikely to continue in Formula 1 in 2025 unless there is a significant development.
Potential Successor for Sergio Perez at Red Bull?
During a discussion on the F1 Nation podcast, it was suggested that Sergio Perez's current performance might not be sufficient to secure his position with Red Bull for the upcoming year.
"Alex Jacques evaluated the situation, saying, 'No, not in the manner that would allow him to continue with that team. It's unfortunate to admit.'"
The driver has won six grand prix races and has experienced some remarkable successes. However, I doubt he will remain with that team.
Tom Clarkson inquired, "I'll go back to the topic of Valtteri Bottas—can you name someone better who is currently available?"
Jacques responded by saying, "I can think of many individuals to mention. However, because Helmut Marko believes he lacks talent, it won't take place."
Within the team, the balance of influence is such that Marko has never considered him to be an elite driver.
Clarkson stated: "It's essential for Helmut to join us. Given that Max is in the other vehicle, we require a fast, steady, and unbiased driver to consistently secure a top-five finish."
Jacques mentioned that being just two or three-tenths of a second behind Max’s qualifying time would place you in the top five, which helps in moving closer to improving your position in the constructors' championship.
"He excelled at that role while at Mercedes, but the team is currently not implementing it."
Valtteri Bottas remarked that there are individuals at Red Bull who are not particularly fond of him.
Sky Sports' Ted Kravitz later revealed that the person was Marko.
Crash.net has received information from sources at the Qatar paddock indicating that Red Bull will delay any decision regarding the embattled Perez's future until after the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
Horner mentioned that Perez will have the freedom to decide for himself if he wants to continue in his racing position.
Could Yuki Tsunoda be the solution?
Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson, who are teammates at Red Bull's junior team, are leading contenders to take over Perez's spot.
However, Jacques remarked about Tsunoda, saying, "In my opinion, they have never genuinely valued him."
"He has spent four years in Formula 1 thanks to the Honda program."
Yuki has the potential to perform exceptionally well, but there are concerns about how consistently he can maintain that level of performance.
"There have been varying viewpoints on the matter, causing a delay in reaching a resolution."
Next Tuesday's postseason test in Abu Dhabi could be the last opportunity for drivers to make their case.
Jacques mentioned that Tsunoda might succeed if he performs exceptionally well in the test.
"Do you recall the extensive discussion surrounding Daniel Ricciardo's test at Silverstone last year?"
"I believe it will either be Liam Lawson or Yuki."
Haas' Test and Reserve Driver, Pietro Fittipaldi, commented, "Checo is a friend of mine, and I hope he stays. However, I think they will choose someone from their existing group of drivers."
"Perhaps it's ultimately better if he doesn't go on. However, from a racer's perspective, I understand that he has a desire to compete."
"I would choose Tsunoda. The Abu Dhabi test clearly shows this."
For ten years, James worked as a sports reporter at Sky Sports, where he covered a wide range of events, including American sports, football, and Formula 1.

The event has signed a new agreement to remain on the Formula 1 schedule for the next two years, but will be removed after that.
According to a statement from F1, the promoter has decided, following extensive deliberation and talks, not to continue on the schedule beyond 2026.
Verstappen Takes Control at Zandvoort
Since its reintroduction to the schedule in 2021, the race has gained a reputation for showcasing the overwhelming backing of Verstappen by his home country, the Netherlands.
Spectators in the stands are dressed in orange to show their support for Verstappen.
Since the return of the Zandvoort event in 2021, Lewis Hamilton, who competes against Verstappen, has faced jeers from the audience.
Over the last three seasons, the Red Bull racer has consistently secured victory at his home grand prix, thrilling the local fans each time.
Formula 1's CEO Addresses Departure of Dutch Grand Prix
Stefano Domenicali, the President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts made by the Dutch Grand Prix team over the past few years.
"They set new standards for European Grand Prix events by enhancing the spectacle and entertainment value. They also played a key role in nurturing young talent by hosting F2, F3, and our F1 Academy series. Furthermore, they have been at the forefront of introducing sustainable solutions, which have influenced our global events as we aim to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2030."
All involved parties worked together constructively to explore ways to continue the race. They considered several possibilities, such as alternating the event or holding it annually. Ultimately, we honor the choice made by the promoter to conclude its remarkable series in 2026.
"I would like to express my gratitude to the entire team at the Dutch Grand Prix and the Zandvoort Municipality for being outstanding collaborators with Formula 1."
Robert van Overdijk, who oversees the Dutch Grand Prix, stated that the event is the outcome of a distinctive partnership among SportVibes, TIG Sports, and Circuit Zandvoort. These organizations jointly aimed to reintroduce the race to the Netherlands.
Our accomplishments up to this point are undeniably a significant triumph. The positive feedback from our guests, drivers, and teams has been extraordinary, and we take immense pride in this achievement.
"Today's announcement marks the conclusion of a significant period, but we are optimistic that fans have much to anticipate at the Dutch Grand Prix in 2025 and 2026, with the Sprint race included in 2026."
As a privately owned enterprise, we need to weigh the benefits of maintaining the event against various risks and obligations. We've made the decision to conclude on a high note with two more outstanding Dutch Grands Prix scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
"We aimed to make this move while our event continues to be cherished and backed by enthusiastic fans, local residents, and the Formula 1 community. I would like to express my gratitude to Stefano Domenicali and everyone at Formula 1 for their dedication, which has led to numerous contract renewals and the remarkable success of the Dutch Grand Prix."
For ten years, James worked as a sports reporter at Sky Sports, where he covered a wide range of topics including American sports, football, and Formula 1.

FIA Rule Change Push: Ben Sulayem Seeks Expanded Powers Amid Controversy and Driver Discontent
FIA aims to modify regulations to increase president's authority
Insight into FIA's proposed rule adjustments
According to reports, the organization that oversees Formula 1 is seeking to modify regulations so that complaints related to ethics are addressed directly by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.
According to a BBC report, proposed changes are set to be voted on by the FIA assembly on December 13. If these amendments receive approval, they would grant Ben Sulayem increased authority.

This change would result in Carmelo Sanz De Barros, who is the president of the FIA and the senate, taking charge of handling ethical complaints instead of the senate managing them.
According to the BBC, this action would also stop the audit committee from independently examining financial matters.
Since being appointed as FIA president in December 2021, Ben Sulayem has been involved in numerous controversies. As he gets ready to campaign for re-election to a second term, these issues have placed him in the spotlight.
According to the BBC, the president of the FIA is under scrutiny regarding the financial management of his personal office and the creation of a $1.5 million "president's fund" intended to financially support member clubs that participate in the election of the FIA president.
Furthermore, Ben Sulayem was found not guilty of any misconduct after accusations arose that he had meddled in the organization of two events in the 2023 season.
Recently, he has gained attention due to several unexpected resignations from senior positions within the FIA.
A few weeks prior to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, surprising news broke that F1 race director Niels Wittich had been dismissed from his role with three races remaining in the season.
The lead-up to the Qatar Grand Prix was marked by the news of two additional exits: Janette Tan, who was scheduled to debut as the race director for F2 last weekend, and Tim Mayer, a steward with many years of experience.
In May, Natalie Robyn resigned from her position as CEO after only 18 months, citing issues with the organization's governance.
FIA President Faces Dispute with Formula 1 Drivers
Ben Sulayem has stirred up controversy among F1 drivers, who worry that they are not being informed about crucial decisions made by the FIA.
George Russell, the director of the GPDA, has urged the FIA to provide clearer information, expressing his confusion about "who will be dismissed next."
However, Ben Sulayem addressed the drivers' worries by asserting that the way he manages the FIA is "not their concern."
Ben Sulayem expressed his admiration for drivers, stating, "I have great respect for them as a fellow driver. They should focus on their primary skill, which is racing," during an interview with Motorsport in Qatar.
"Sure, you want to find out how much we spent on grassroots activities? I'll tell you: last year, we put in 10.3 million euros towards grassroots efforts. I believe that's a significant amount. As for 2024, so far, we've already allocated over 10 million euros to grassroots initiatives, particularly in karting."
Mercedes chief Toto Wolff joked about the recent controversies involving the FIA, suggesting that the organization could star in a "reality show" of its own.

Esteban Ocon’s Graceful Farewell: Reflecting on a Sudden Alpine F1 Departure and New Beginnings at Haas
'Esteban Ocon Comments on Unexpected Departure from Alpine'
Esteban Ocon shares a composed statement after his early departure from the Alpine F1 team.
Esteban Ocon has expressed his thoughts after leaving the Alpine F1 team earlier than expected.
On Monday, Alpine revealed that following the Qatar Grand Prix, Jack Doohan, a newcomer in 2025, will take Esteban Ocon's place for the final race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, this coming weekend.

Rumors about a surprising driver exchange for the season's final race surfaced following the Qatar race on Sunday. Alpine then validated these reports on Monday.
On Tuesday, Ocon issued a statement expressing gratitude to his team at Alpine and stating that he did not wish for things to conclude with an early departure.
"I want to primarily express my gratitude to the mechanics and engineers from every department at the track, as well as those in Enstone and Viry-Châtillon, who have been my teammates over the past five seasons," Ocon stated.
"We've experienced a lot together, and I'm honored to consider many of you as friends. I understand the significance of all those shared moments for everyone, and it's the collective sense of accomplishment and happiness with the team that I'll cherish as I move forward."
"The team has faced a challenging year on the track, with the latter half of the season proving particularly tough for several reasons."
"I have no regrets because I know I put in my full effort during every session, just as I always do."
"I want to express my apologies to the many dedicated individuals working at Enstone and Viry, as I will not be able to visit in person to say a proper goodbye."
As you're aware, the intention was to compete for the final time this weekend and then bid a personal farewell to everyone next week. I had been eagerly anticipating both events.
"I didn't intend for things to conclude this way. However, the Formula 1 community is tight-knit, and I'm confident I'll cross paths with many of you again in the near future."
"I also want to extend my best wishes to my friend Jack as he embarks on this significant new chapter in his career at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix happening this week."
Alpine released a short reply to Ocon's remarks, stating: "You will always be a part of our Team's legacy. Thank you, Esteban. Wishing you all the best."
A 28-year-old driver from France is set to be part of the Haas team next season. Reports suggest that his contract has ended early, allowing him to participate with the American team in the test session scheduled for next week, after the current season concludes.
Alpine asserts that separation is mutually beneficial.
On Sunday, prior to the official announcement, Alpine's team leader, Oliver Oakes, indicated that parting ways would be advantageous for both sides.
Nevertheless, in his farewell statement, Ocon expressed that he holds a contrasting opinion.
“It seems to come from various directions. You could argue that bringing Jack in sooner is beneficial, while from Esteban’s perspective, transitioning earlier is advantageous,” stated Oakes.
"I believe it works well for everyone, making the conversation quite straightforward. Esteban has played a significant role in this team, and it benefits both parties involved."
In essence, it's more about the natural progression of him transitioning to a new phase. The question is whether it's mutually beneficial for both parties to make this change slightly ahead of the final stage.
"On the flip side, it can be seen as beneficial to have Jack join the team now, allowing him to collaborate with everyone and overcome any nervousness before next year in Australia."

From Champion to Celebrant: Jenson Button Reflects on the First Abu Dhabi GP and Night of Revelry with Schumacher
EXCLUSIVE: I competed in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and celebrated with Michael Schumacher
A story about Formula 1's debut in Abu Dhabi, which took place 15 years ago
The inaugural F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix took place in 2009, and since then, many things have evolved.
Jenson Button entered as the freshly crowned Formula 1 champion following his victory in Brazil.

The final race of the season, now a staple event, is set to take place. Formula 1 will conclude its 2024 campaign in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
Button described it as having a futuristic quality during an exclusive conversation with Crash.net.
The experience was incredible, involving racing at night and traveling to a country I had never visited before. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it marked my first podium finish after several races that season.
"I came to Abu Dhabi as the reigning World Champion after securing a victory in Brazil, which was an excellent race."
"I spent Sunday evening at Amber Lounge with Michael Schumacher and Ross Brawn, and it was incredibly enjoyable."
The Yas Marina circuit has undergone major modifications to enhance the quality of the races.
Button expressed his enjoyment of the track while driving it and mentioned that he will have the opportunity to drive there again in January.
"We're conducting tests for the WEC at that location, so I'll get a sense of the high-speed section soon. Overall, I find it enjoyable."
"The event is well-timed in the schedule. Unlike the rapid circuits found at Suzuka, Silverstone, or Spa, this track offers a different experience. Nonetheless, I always have a great time driving there, and I believe the competition is exciting."
Button reminisces about Abu Dhabi, recalling his full-time retirement and his second-to-last race in 2016.
He describes his most cherished experiences: "Standing on the podium during the inaugural year and then again the next year when we celebrated Sebastian [Vettel] becoming the World Champion."
"Standing on the podium with Lewis and me, both representing McLaren, was a memorable moment as we were the last two World Champions. It was quite exciting to celebrate by spraying Seb with champagne!"
"Those two are memorable, but my last race there also stands out."
"I experienced a suspension issue and ended the race prematurely. Afterward, I had some drinks and participated in numerous interviews where I expressed indifference about my departure from Formula 1."
"The statements weren't completely accurate! I've always had a great time there, and I'm excited to return and experience those moments again."
It has been 15 years since Button won his only Formula 1 title while driving for Brawn.
"It's hard to believe that 15 years have passed! I had the chance to get behind the wheel of the car again five years ago, and it was a wonderful experience," he mentioned.
Looking back, it was a year destined to be remembered in the annals of history. This wasn't simply due to my victory in the World Championship, but more so because a private team, Brawn GP, clinched their inaugural World Championship in their very first year.
"After 15 years, it's easy to forget a lot of details, which is unfortunate. That's why I feel fortunate that a documentary was created about it."
"Last week, my wife and I were in Paris when it appeared on TV, so we decided to watch it."
Having the season captured on record, where I can witness the emotions of all those who participated, is truly remarkable. I feel incredibly fortunate to have this. Keanu Reeves did an outstanding job with it. Although there are many fond memories from that season, it was also the most challenging year I've ever faced due to the immense pressure I placed on myself.

Jack Doohan Praises Esteban Ocon’s Mentorship Ahead of F1 Debut Amid Shocking Alpine Driver Swap
Jack Doohan expresses his appreciation to Esteban Ocon following an unexpected shift at Alpine. He stated, "I'm also really thankful to Esteban, from whom I've gained a lot of knowledge over the past two years."
Jack Doohan expressed his gratitude to Esteban Ocon, highlighting his positive impact on his education and progress in Formula 1. This comes in the wake of Alpine's surprising announcement about a driver swap for the final race of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Doohan is set to compete in his first Formula 1 grand prix during this weekend's race in Abu Dhabi, stepping in for Ocon at Alpine.

Not long after the race in Qatar ended on Sunday, there were hints that Ocon might give up his position for the last race of the season, which would allow Doohan to get an early start on his F1 career.
It quickly became clear that Ocon had made an arrangement with Alpine's head, Flavio Briatore, to skip the last race. In exchange, he would be permitted to drive for Haas during the test session scheduled for next Tuesday after the season ends.
In 2025, Doohan will join Alpine's Formula 1 team, partnering with Pierre Gasly as part of their driver roster.
The Australian expressed gratitude to Ocon with an elegant message.
Doohan announced on his X account: "Excited to compete in my first Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Thankful to Alpine for their confidence and for this chance."
"I am extremely thankful to Esteban, from whom I have gained a lot of knowledge over the past two years. His contributions have been invaluable to my growth and progress in Formula 1, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
"This week, I am concentrating on my current tasks and collaborating with Pierre to assist the team in reaching its goals."
A vital competition awaits Alpine and Doohan in Abu Dhabi. Stepping into Formula 1 for the first time is a significant event for any racer.
Nonetheless, performing this action during the season's concluding race is unusual, especially given the current situation.
Doohan will have the chance to make a good impression on Alpine as he looks toward the upcoming year.
Although Doohan has secured a full-time driving position with the team for 2025, there is widespread speculation suggesting that Alpine is eyeing Franco Colapinto.
It is certain that Doohan will face instant pressure to deliver results in F1 in 2025.
Alpine is aiming to clinch the sixth position in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship, striving to finish ahead of Haas and RB.
The gap between the two teams is just five points.

Farewell to a Legend: Celebrating Lewis Hamilton’s Final Chapter with Mercedes at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Toto Wolff aims to conclude the "current chapter" with Lewis Hamilton "appropriately." Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton have a "week of celebration" in store.
Toto Wolff describes the final Formula 1 race of the season in Abu Dhabi as "a celebration" as Lewis Hamilton competes for Mercedes one last time.
Hamilton is set to make his final appearance with Mercedes after Sunday's race at the Yas Marina Circuit.

The collaboration between Hamilton and Mercedes stands as the most triumphant alliance between a driver and a team in the history of Formula 1.
Hamilton has secured six out of his seven championship titles while racing for Mercedes, achieving 84 wins and surpassing 150 podium placements.
In what has been a challenging final year for the seven-time world champion in 2024, he succeeded in making a comeback by clinching victory at the British Grand Prix. He followed up this success with another triumph at Spa-Francorchamps just before the summer break.
As Lewis Hamilton prepares for his last weekend racing with Mercedes, Wolff reflected, "After an amazing 12-year partnership, we are set to conclude our racing journey with Lewis this weekend. It has been a remarkable experience. Back in 2013, when we first teamed up, we had no idea what lay ahead."
Six World Championships for drivers. Eight titles for constructors. A total of 84 race victories. Securing the pole position 78 times. Finishing on the podium 153 times. This marks the most triumphant collaboration between a driver and a team in Formula 1's history. We've celebrated numerous triumphs and faced some devastating setbacks, but we have conquered them as a team.
The significance of our partnership extends far beyond mere figures and data. It leaves a legacy that surpasses the boundaries of our sport, leaving a lasting influence that reaches beyond the racecourse. This legacy has actively worked to enhance diversity within our sport and has championed the cause of inclusion.
Lewis has played a pivotal role in driving these efforts, and we have felt privileged and proud to collaborate closely with him. This collaboration will continue beyond this year. However, it all started due to the momentum initiated by Lewis.
"Lewis will forever be a member of our family." Since debuting in Formula 1 in 2007, Hamilton has consistently raced with Mercedes-powered vehicles.
In 2025, Hamilton will join Ferrari, realizing a dream from his youth as he aims to secure his eighth world championship.
Prior to that, Mercedes plans to honor Hamilton's accomplishments and contributions by visiting four locations: Kuala Lumpur, where their primary sponsor Petronas is based, as well as Stuttgart, Brixworth, and Brackley.
"This weekend marks a festivity," he mentioned. "It's a festivity honoring all that we have achieved as a team." Lewis has been linked with Mercedes for 26 years, with every lap in his career driven by the iconic three-pointed star.
"We will celebrate this unique journey in Abu Dhabi and continue the celebrations over the next week with visits to Kuala Lumpur, Stuttgart, and finally Brixworth and Brackley. We do so with the understanding that although this chapter of our partnership is concluding, Lewis will forever remain a member of our family."
"At the moment, our attention is entirely on the upcoming race weekend. There's no finer way to conclude our journey together than by delivering a stellar performance on the track. The whole team is committed to creating one last memorable moment. Our goal is also to finish the season in a strong position."
"This will allow us to maintain our momentum through the winter and beyond as we begin the next phase of our journey in 2025. With George stepping into the role of lead driver and Kimi bringing fresh energy as a promising rookie, we have a promising future ahead. However, it's important to conclude this current chapter properly. Thank you, Lewis: let's make this last time count."
