Robert Kubica is set to participate in the DTM rookie test with BMW later this month after leaving Formula 1.
The 34-year-old Polish driver made an impressive return to Formula 1 with the Williams team this year, after overcoming severe injuries from a 2011 rally accident. However, he chose to exit the championship following a challenging season marked by uncompetitive performance.
Kubica aims to pursue a dual role in 2020, balancing duties as an F1 simulator driver with a racing schedule in DTM, and is reportedly in discussions with both Haas and Racing Point.
As he prepares for his upcoming move to DTM, Kubica will get the chance to drive BMW's M4 DTM car during the rookie test scheduled in Jerez from December 10-13. Additionally, Nick Yelloly has been announced as a driver for the German automaker.
Former F1 driver Kubica, who raced for the German team from 2006 to 2009, has prior experience with DTM cars, having tested a Mercedes back in 2013.
Kubica expressed gratitude to BMW Motorsport for giving him the chance to test the BMW M4 DTM car at Jerez.
"I am really excited about the upcoming test and eager to familiarize myself with the DTM race car equipped with a turbo engine. I can definitely see a future for myself in the DTM."
"I am seeking a fresh challenge, and the DTM definitely qualifies as one. The series features a top-tier group of competitors and the driving quality is exceptionally high. Nevertheless, we need to wait and observe my performance during the test."
BMW's head of motorsport, Jens Marquardt, expressed his pleasure in providing Robert Kubica with the chance to participate in the Jerez testing session.
Robert is well-known in the world of international motor racing and has extensive experience in top-tier series such as Formula 1. We are now very interested to see how he performs during his test drive of a touring car, specifically our BMW M4 DTM.
